Ah, the perfect market-niche for Taurus. And that is what often stays in my truck - a Taurus PT92 9mm and a bunch of loaded mags.

I don't have a dog in this fight, but what about the stated facts makes you assume that which you are assuming? Always like to know if I'm missing some clue . . .
Im fairly certain even if you live on post(federal installation) your weapons need to be holstered and technically declared at the gate. If his son drives around like he said, then, its a matter of time before he is caught. But NG (nevermind reserve they are federal) units have had some states allow ccw on NG Base

I am fairly certain even if his son lives on post and registers his weapon, he cant be driving around like that on a federal installation. Those are the assumptions I made.

I have just usually a J frame in my pocket unless I go into some place I can't carry and it is then in my console. Presently though I have a 37 in the rear storage compartment in my Trailblazer. Hard to get to but a backup if ever needed.
I've been giving some thought to keeping an older Ruger auto in .40 S&W somewhere in my truck but not decided where yet. I do have a couple car gun vaults and maybe in one of those too.
In Michigan we have to have long guns unloaded in a case or trunk as our CPL doesn't cover them. I've thought too about putting my Ithaca riot gun with pistol grip in a case or one of my ARs. Problem is neither will fit in that storage compartment and laying in the rear even with a towel or something over them doesn't seem to be secure enough for me and too visible from outside even if only a gun shaped lump saying steal me.
Any good ideas on how to keep a long gun secure in such a vehicle?

I'm in the whatever gun I'm carrying on my person group. When I was living in a no ccw state years ago I kept an old tokarev or makarov in my vehicle. Never left it overnight and cable locked it under the seat while I was working. I grew up in a time and place that it was common to have a 30-.30 in a back window rack in the truck. Oh, almost forgot my other old truck gun. A Webley top break cut for moon clips and loaded with 230 gr. Ball.

This is the OP
This thread isn't about if you should or shouldn't leave a gun in a vehicle, or to what degree one should be secured if stored.

If your goal is to point out the flaws of a vehicle gun, this thread ain't for you.

I currently have a Charter Arms .357 in a lock box mounted under the seat. But I've been thinking of if I should upgrade to a rifle or shotgun......

So, what's your preference?

Also, a poll!

Replies....

Guns belong on one's person...not rattling around in one's car.

The OP asked a question re: car guns. I replied guns belong on one's person...not in a car.

I am a RESPONSIBLE GUN OWNER who does not leave any gun(s) unsecured.

You have no idea how many guns I own but do believe me, you would not find any nor get anywhere near them on your best day.

Be safe.

A responsible gun owner is one who secures his/her guns in a manner in which they cannot be stolen or accessed by others. Comprende?

As to how mine are protected, I do wonder WHY you are inquiring. :( And I absolutely will not tell you.:p

That said, I have never lost a gun, had one stolen, or had one used by someone else in any manner absent my permission and presence.

Be safe.

My apologies to the OP for not catching all this clutter sooner.

I'll clean it up.

It's not unusual for a thread to get sidetracked, but when someone specifically asks for his thread to not be derailed and by a certain manner, maybe we could try just a little bit more to oblige.

642 PC gun on my hip, and a Bond Arms .38 special derringer in the console.

After posting here earlier, and re-reading this post, I realized
that I was underarmed.
I just installed two photon torpedoes under the front bumper
and I have a phaser in the console and glove box.

I always have a pistol on my hip or pocket and a 'pistol' secured in one of my vehicles. I posted a pic of my M92PAP earlier, so here's what rolls in my other vehicle.

Truck gun

I have an old H&R single shot 12 ga., 18" bbl. with a polychoke on it and 00buck chambered under front of seat. 6 round shell holder velcroed to driver door panel plus whatever i have on my hip. We have pretty good gun laws in Tennessee.

ruger mini 14, or my spikes ar pistol on long road trips. call me paranoid, but if it happens, it will happen a long ways from my gun safe at home...

I don't leave a gun in my car. My car attracts too much attention as it is. Just what I carry. 80% of the time an FN Five Seven. 20+1 rounds that travel at 2400 fps plus an extra 20 round mag. The gun loaded with 21 rounds and a 5" barrel weighs a mere 28 ozs. Extra loaded mag is 7 ozs. Half the weight of a loaded 15 round Glock mag. If 41 rounds isn't enough or can't get me to a rifle, then it is not meant to be.

I collect revolvers and think plastic guns are hideous. The Five Seven being one of the most hideous. But after all the research I have done, there is no denying how devastating the 5.7x28 round is on a soft target (As awful as it is, read the reports of the Ft Hood shooting). It is a long thin round that tumbles like crazy upon entry and shatters whatever is in its path.

The other 20% of the time I carry my 586 L-Comp, 3953, or 65 LadySmith.
