WAR DECLARED in Israel

Reminds me of Oct 1973. I was a young troop in 2nd Armored at Ft. Hood when the Yom Kipper War started. We were on high alert, packed and ready to roll. Just waiting for the word to go.
I wonder if our troops are on alert now?

I was with the 509th Airborne in Italy at the time. Once we were stood down from our alert to jump in and seize an airfield for you guys, we ended up prepping most of our wartime contingency resupply pallets so the Air Force could drop them to the Egyptian Third Army which the Israelis had cut off and surrounded in the Sinai. Just one of many times folks should have asked themselves the question "Do we really want to take on the Israelis?"

I hope it works out well. My thinking is that Hamas is going to get hammered and I hope it does not bring others into the conflict. While Israel has been a good ally we need to remember that to them Israel comes first so we should be careful accepting all they say on face value. I still remember the USS Liberty

Some observations:

1. Hamas has learned that by taking hostages they can get $$$ just like Iran recently got $6 billion for "humanitarian purposes"... with their US hostages in a swap with us.

2. The world will sternly and threateningly condemn Israel when it retaliates.

3. America is viewed as very "weak" after the Afghanistan withdraw, so bad actors will continue to see their chance to attack and take advantage while we are perceived as "asleep" at the wheel.

4. Israel's Intelligence failures - Imagine our intelligence failures with our open border bad actors coming over and now all over our country.

5. America's response will sound stern and tough today, but in a month we will continue to send officials over there and China to discuss the disaster of CLIMATE CHANGE...

^^^^This on the button.

It is my understanding that Isreal has formally declared war in this. If so, I cannot remember when a nation actually declared war not just give war a fancy name.

This is the result of a feud that goes back to the dawn of history and will never be resolved until one side exterminates the other. I often wonder if they even know what they are fighting about anymore except just to fight. Especially since Israel's foes never seem to gain significant victories yet still come back for more each time.

I'm not predicting anything here except an Israeli victory and a lot of revenge. In short, the usual for that part of the world.

I agree with the smoking hole theory. If you were surrounded by hostiles how would you respond? I can't believe that the best intelligence force in the world had no idea 2k - 5k rockets were being moved into position.

I hope it is not the fuse to the big bang we all worry about.

Admin Edit-
I believe this topic can be discussed without going into US politics or commentary on US politicians.
We are prepared to prove the point. ;)

original post:

This morning there are reports of hundreds/thousands of muslim extremists streaming along the border of Israel/Palestine. Dozens of Israel civilians and soldiers have been shot dead/killed.

Please pray for Israel and for the swift retribution against these attackers.

God bless,

Glenn

A friend showed me the video of the poor Israeli woman being dragged around in the streets. It’s terrible

Expectation is that Russia and/or Iran may throw full support behind Hamas, and then it will turn into a very real and prolonged war.

But haven’t we recently sent most of our missiles, 155mm artillery shells, and small arms ammunition to Ukraine?

More than once in the past the US has stopped Israel from eliminating the problem.

Not being there, I am not sure why the Palestinians want to incur more revenge from Israel which is usually dealt out tenfold. Are they trying to provoke an attack to make more of their people victims and create more antipathy against Israel? Even with allies, they cannot be contemplating victory in a conventional military sense. Maybe it is just "time" to vent some frustration?

What I find remarkable, is with this constant level of danger faced by the Israeli population, private firearm ownership is quite restrictive. There was a YouTube video a few years ago talking about same. I'll see if I can find it. Given the IDF's failure to protect these borders and settlements, at least their civilians should be allowed the opportunity to defend themselves.

My best friend of fifty-three years and his wife arrived in Israel last night for a two week tour. His group was supposed to spend the night in Bethlehem but was held at the airport instead. The tour is currently on hold. He is concerned but not ready to head home yet.

My best friend has lived there for 40 years. No doubt, his two sons will be called up.
My friend was a captain when he served. That qualifies him to own a handgun, but he is too fearful that his young granddaughters could access it.
Gun ownership is very restrictive there, for two reasons. Israel has its own radicals who might get trigger happy, and the bigger fear being that guns could fall into the hands of terrorists. An example of that, is the punishment given a soldier who loses his rifle. Five years mandatory jail time.

That was my first thought. I think Bibi now has an excuse to make the west bank a smoking hole.
. If that's true and the Israeli government knew and did nothing, the excuse comes at the expense/sacrifice of their own citizens. It sucks to be them, I guess.

The whole truth quite often never comes out. ;)
I agree with you about the whole truth never coming out, but some of it will come out and it play out like it's played out before.

It'll play out like this:

The government will put out an official narrative/talking points or outright propaganda, and the news media will unquestionably parrot.

Anybody who questions the narrative will be called a "conspiracy theorist", accused of spreading mis/disinformation. Then if that doesn't work, they'll be censored/canceled.

We've seen this very scenario play out with events we can't talk about on this forum. :)

I have seen more footage today of the war in Israel than I have seen of that other war all year.

Both sides in the other war have relearned some hard lessons about journalist access and their own OPSEC. Information is precious, having Twitter etc coughing up what you know for all to see is not good practice for any military, so bolt down the edges on information. If that causes wailing and gnashing of teeth by the media, so be it.
