Was I Wrong Or Was She?

I'd never heard of this custom before... Is it relatively recent, or is it a regional thing?
I've never heard of it either. Great come back, BTW. Yes she was wrong to ask. I would have asked her if that was her going rate. (Apologies to the Ladies here). She definately was no lady. -Ed.
Say, isn't that considered "solicitation"?

As many others, I've seen it at weddings but never at a convenience store or a restaurant. Great reply, Charlie.

For those that have never heard of this tradition, it is very prominent in the black community, at least it is here in Texas, and it is always been a female. I have never seen a male with the money pinned to the shirt. It may have happened but I have not seen it.

Have responded to a number of disturbance calls, where the majority of party goers are intoxicated, and you can tell who the birthday girl is with the money pinned to the blouse. In fact, some of the problems have resulted when the boyfriend tries to share in the money. Although most are pretty respectful of the practice. Those that try to get the money are usually called out by the others at the party. At least that has been my experience.

Charlie, that is a great response, in no way vulgar, nor disrepectful. Statement of fact, delivered without judgement. I loved it.

im guessin she didnt look too pretty? i have seen this done and think its dumb for a grown person to do, a little kid would ok

And here in the Poconos the birthday person has beer and bourbon on their shirt.

That seems like a tacky and made up tradition. I don't think anyone with half a brain does that to strangers.

I'm thinking we should all start carrying monopoly money just for such occasions.
I've got a really old pac of smokes I keep in the truck for the bums that always ask at the stoplight.
