What happened yesterday?

One reason why I insist on a land line. And it's worked even when the rest of the power went off.

Also, no battery to die.

I have a new cell phone that I'm trying to get working, so as to have one with me. But no way will I rely on a cell phone alone.

This happened to me last Tuesday and it took removing and replacing the battery for it to come back to life (Verizon). Spooky :(

For my money I'm saying it was the work of George Bush! If he can cause Katrina he can surely turn off a cell phone. (with the aid of the canadian whiskey of course!)

Howdy

Howdy,
Mark just dropped by. He mentioned that his phone had shut down earlier this morning again. Mine has been sitting here next to me hooked to a charger and everything has been normal.
I just think it is odd that something can turn off a persons phone.
Can two people count as a case of mass hypnosis?
Anyway, thanks for the replies, I enjoyed them all.
Mike

All right now, this is serious! You guys quit clowning around!

(just because your paranoid doesn't mean they're not watching you!)

Ummm, I have a little confesson to make -- that thorium reactor kit I was assembling yesterday to power that galactic transmission beam I have been working on on weekends (I work on it on the weekends that I am not working on my "Learn neurosurgery at home" course) had a little hiccup -- sort of towards the north (Arkansas/Missouri direction) -
-- don't know if it had any effect on your phone but none of the satellite recievers around here work anymore and I have sort of a greenish glow to my skin -- darn fireflys keep trying to land on me and mate.

Did you have them laying out in the sun? They may have just got too hot and shut down.

When was the last time you did a tower database update? Supposed to do it monthly if on Verizon (*228 ).

It could be the newer phones are doing it on a signal from the tower. With all the changeover from 3 to 4G, the phones have to do something to keep up.

That's why I still keep my slide ruler, astrolabe and star tables-cause ya just never know.................
BTW-I'm good with the Canadian whiskey idea though...

update

Everything is like it should be.
I still think it is odd two phones from different carriers turned off with in seconds of each other.
Temps were cool and Mark's phone was in a padded case on his belt. Mine was on the table just inside the garage.
Mark is kind to his stuff and takes good care of his phone, where I deep fried this phone for fun and recreation at the last fish fry. I'm lucky it didn't blow a battery and sprinkle everyone with hot lard. It is a submersible milspec phone that is tough as woodpecker lips, but I think I am about to get the best of it.
They ought to pay me to test things. If there is a weak spot I'll find it.
When it goes I'll get another one like it. A regular cel phone doesn't stand a chance.
Thanks again for the input.
Mike

The smoke emitted from the cooker may have created something similar to Spordic E. The electromagnetic waves emitted by your cell phones, while turned on but not in use, may have been propagated by the rib smoke sporadic E layer in a way that bounced back to your cell phones creating harmonics which triggered a circuit shutdown. It happens...
