What is the best 686 version?

I would suggest the 7 round dash 4 snub nosed. There are not too many of them around.

I bought my 686 4" in 1983 and my wife used it for her Leo service thru her years. She didn't like the factory grips so she had a set of Hogue put on it and said it was a tack driver.

OK guys. Which version of the 686 is seen as the best configuration? Barrel length? Number of shots? Dash number? I am looking forward to your opinions.

I WOULD SAY THAT THE 686+ (7 SHOTS), IN THE -4 VERSION, WITH A 4" BARREL, IS THE PICK OF THE LITTER......

DING DING DING, we have a winner! It also has a proper barrel shape instead of that hopelessly ugly, answer in search of a question, full lug abomination. I swear they only did that as a tip of the hat to the Python, and whoever is responsible for that should beaten to severe discomfort, repeated with vigor as soon as they heal.

The full lug is anything but ugly.

All I knew about my 686-6 (164284) when I got it that it was a .357 and I liked it.

Turns out that its even nicer than I originally thought. :)

Couldn't be more pleased with my only 686, a dash 3, I purchased new on Nov 2nd, 1991.
