I was 3 or 4 and my dogs name was rin-tin-tin. A german shepherd that was related to the real rin-tin-tin. Not sure if I am spelling it right. Next best dog friends name was Stumpy. The best bird dog I ever had. How old were you with your first pup?

Jack. He was a border collie. Hard worker and protector. Got ran over and killed 5 miles from home chasing a female in heat. Sad day that I will always remember. I think I was 8 or 9 years old.
Peace,
gordon

Tippy, a mixed shepard. Got him when I was around 4 and he lived about 8 years or so. Having no brothers or sisters, Tippy and I played a whole lot. He was about as gentle as a dog could be.

First pup, 3rd grade, bassett hound named Gracie. Mom HATED her! She ended up being adopted by my pediatrician's main nurse. Parents skipped a few years and then got some weird dogs (they didn't last long either) then my senior year we got Pugs that my parents still have. My first real dog though I would have to say, was a Mini-Aussie named Link that my wife and I bought for our first anniversary! We loved the little bugger, but sadly in April his liver shut down and we were forced to put him to sleep. Currently on dog number 2 newfoundland/poodle named Theodore D. Bear (Teddy).

Queenie, a beagle. We had her for 9 or 10 years, if I remember correctly.

We had a big yard with a fence on just one side, but no other dog dared set foot in her yard. As a matter of fact, they would trot by on the other side of the street. Swiftly, I might add.

Stong, a collie. My pop got a routed redwood sign to hang under the mailbox that said "Flung Spume", so the dog's full name was actually Stong of Flung Spume. This was long before Monty Python, but I was totally ready when they came along.

That would be Sandy, a cocker spaniel. Don't ask me why a male dog was called Sandy;my Mother named him, probably because of the color of his coat. I remember him as an excellent dog, growing up with him on an airbase in the Canal Zone. We had lots of fun together till he bit a bully that was throwing rocks at him before I could get to the jerk. Base rules, he had to leave, so he went to live with my grandparents in Panama City. I remember he loved beer, & my Dad always saved the last swig in the bottle for him. Seems like Jax was his favorite!

Our family's first dog was Champagne, an off-white Heinz 57, she was a wonderful old gal, long gone. My first dog after I got married was Azhia, a shepherd-border collie mix.

My first was a Shepard-Elkhound cross named Lobo he looked like a Shepard but was black and grey. He was a great dog but sadly he got sick and had to be put down.

My father had a little dog. It was named "Buster." Buster died of poisoning. I was maybe 8 years old. The next door neighbor saw that our dog had died. He had a gorgeous little puppy, a German Shepherd/Collie mix that was beautiful and precious. He handed him over the fence to us. We named him "Shep." He was a wonderful dog. We loved him to death. He died just as I started college.

I couldn't tell you what type of dog Duke was...but he was a smart mutt. I had to have been around the same age (3 or 4). Duke's eyes were different (gray and brown I believe) which made him unique. He would walk to the corner to wait for us to walk home from school (yes we walked home without fear or supervision - we even crossed the street too).
I know most of you are wondering, the year was 1958 - the kids weren't bubble wrapped back then...we even played outside.

We had a SaintBernard called "Luffsan"

I Think it would translate to "Lumbering"

Unfortunatly she got sick and had to lumber on to the great beyond :(

A German Shepherd named Rex. I remember one of the older kids in our neighborhood was in our backyard teasing him one day and found out the hard way it was a bad idea. Rex shreded most of the clothes off of him including a heavy leather jacket.

Homer, a dobie/boxer/lab mix. Very racist dog, but a good babysitter and protector. Shredder of women's underwear. Eater of hot peppers. Destroyer of screen doors and windows.
