The stuff I am referring to is variously called snot, mucus, bogeys, crud depending on where you were raised.

Finally got nailed by this year's cold virus. Had a sore throat and felt crummy at the weekend, and starting Tuesday the "wet" part of the illness started. Here in Vegas that can be an issue as the climate dries you up so quickly. That can often lead to blockages and finally a sinus infection. To combat this I have been on the Mucinex and Sudafed PE diet since Monday.

This morning I get up after a good night's sleep and after a few minutes the left side of my nasal cavity starts to tickle. I grab a tissue and gently blow. This results in a strange sensation in my head, and given the possibility of a sinus infection I check out the tissue. Apparently, large Gummy Bears now come in a new color, "Mid-Atlantic Grey", and I have just expelled one from my nose. WTH???

I'm no expert on anatomy, but how was I hiding something that size inside my face. Oh, his little brother appeared about 20 minutes later. My head has been cracking and popping ever since.:(

Back in 2000 I had a similar experience with a very wet cold. Got up one morning feeling I needed to blow my nose, so I did. Clear mucus flowed for as long as I had breath, about three or four times in succession. By the time I was done I swear my knees were thinner.;) Again, where the heck was all that stuff sitting? Am I a genetic freak with sinus cavities similar to a chipmunk's cheek pouches?

Go to the doctor. That's a sure sign of infection and over the counter meds will not help.

Can you tell if you have any cracking.wheezing noise from your upper chest? Yes? Go to the doc. If not your head cold can move down to that area causing an upper respiratory infection. Or even into the bronchial tubes causing bronchitis.

I've had an upper resp infection twice in the last ten years and am now fighting off bronchitis. That's how I know. I am currently taking a steroid, antibiotic, inhaler, and nasal spray. Been sick for a week.

Don't mess around with this. One good friend just spent a week in bed due to pneumonia and a friend of a friends sister died from pneumonia which started as the flu. She was just over 40.

Push fluids don't drink anything but water and drink a minimum of half a gallon a day. Not saying don't go to the doctor just saying push water

Odd you mention this phenom.. Last Sunday I awoke with what turned out to be the worst head cold I can remember. I was sneezing all Sunday night. On Monday A.M. I looked in the bathroom mirror and a continuous snot ran from my nose to the sink about 20" below. That has never happened before. Thursday it started to let up and my sinuses are now draining some really bad looking green and red glop that blows thru a Kleenex like a .357. Pics on request.

Nothing on my chest, and the mucus is blowing clear again. Had the Gummy Bear been that infected vibrant green I would have been more concerned from the git-go.

I suffered with sinus infections ever winter for years. I've had head aches from sinus infections that were worse than a hangover. Finally went to an allergy doctor who prescribed a nasal spay with a small amount of steroid that works wonders keeps the build up out of my sinus and this stops the breeding ground for infections.

Count me in as I've been sick sense last Sat. . I went to my Doctors Wed. he said I have a bad sinus infection and put me on Sudafed 12 hr., Flonase nose spray and every 4 hrs alternating Ibuprofin and Tylenol. I'm starting to feel better but still have a cough mostly at night. :(

I tried Flonase and I had to be VERY careful not to eat or drink for an extended period after using it otherwise it gave me stomach problems.

I've had a long lasting cold as well. I was sick as a dog the week after Christmas and another week as well, then last week it came back, although not as bad. Mucinex and my asthma inhaler along with 3 full grams of vitamin C a day and some aspirin is all I take.
For the record, green snot does not necessarily indicate infection. Green pus, sure, but not green mucus. The color comes from a particular white blood cell that the body's immune system sends out to fight the illness. Ever mention to the doctor that your mucus is green and notice how unconcerned he is?What Your Mucus Says About Your Health
