Whiskey Before Bed?

Ive had a few times in my life when sleeping became difficult.

Once it was the bed it was sagged out and while it felt ok. I just could not sleep well on it. Bought a new bed problem solved.

Another time life became very stressful and complicated. I started taking the Tylenol PM, poorly and wake up groggy. Id be groggy all day really dragging. This went on for months even after some of the stress went away. I kinda felt hooked on the PM. I just stopped taking them, I didnt sleep for a few nights and felt really awful during the day. I did finally sleep. I never looked back. I will take one PM if I am hurting or ill.

Now If I dont feel tired I will take the dog for a walk then relax for a while.

Plenty of exercise during the day, and a meal with a goodly amount of carbs and not too much spice two hours before bed.

If that doesn't work, do more exercise.

Lay off the drugs and booze.

I only tried Viagra once.
Got it stuck in my throat, and had a stiff neck for hours.

If you drink alcohol to go to sleep: Eventually you will need more alcohol to achieve the same state of drowsiness. About then you'll reach a point where you drink, go to bed, go to sleep, and 3-4 hours later your body will again require the sugar the alcohol provided. Your eyes will snap open, your heart will be beating 90 mph and you will be WIDE awake.

This is really good advice, as I can attest to from personal experience. So can my wife.

For many years I have enjoyed a few drinks within a couple hours of going to bed, but more and more often had been waking up around 1 - 2 pm.

As an experiment, a month ago I stopped having anything to drink in the evening :( on weekday nights. My sleeping pattern improved remarkably, to the point now where I rarely wake up at all during the nights. ZZZZzzzz.....

I really hate giving up one of life's enjoyments, but it's a trade-off. As a compromise, I still have wine with my weekend meals.

By the way, I have lost 5 lbs since cutting back, something that had been impossible for me even with daily exercise and a good diet - a good fringe benefit.

Two aspirin with two fingers of whiskey followed by sex.
