Will we ever learn about this Virus !?

The states that jumped all in on the heaviest restrictions at the beginning have the worst end results.

The course of action has failed. Why keep doing it if it failed?

The states that jumped hard on having
restrictions were also the ones with the
highest reported cases such as New York
City and some on the West Coast. Figures
flattened then after the restrictions. But
then some went up as in the L.A. area as
people relaxed.

The virus didn't come pounding down on the
nation as a whole all at once.

Now where restrictions were eased such as in
Texas and Florida the numbers are spiking.
Texas governor just today announced
a tighter program.

As being reported, a lot of people are tired of
being "home bound" and are getting out and not
practicing simple things like wearing the masks.

Compared to Europe, too many Americans are proving to be
quite stupid: packed bars, beaches and a business
as usual attitude.

In many cases, people are mistaking one anecdotal datum ["I don't know anyone who is sick or has died from C19"] for actual facts [cases on the rise in local area].

This leads to a skewed perception of the overall severity of this disease.

Please gets your facts from doctors and scientists, not the talking heads on tv. It may save your life, or the life of one you love.

I would wager even more that 5 years from now, many people will be remembering the date a family member or friend died from the virus response. Suicides, OD's, drug abuse, alcoholism, cancer deaths, deaths from various medical conditions that were not diagnosed...all on the rise and predicted to rise due to the response to COVID. Bottom line, its not as simple and cut and dry as some here seem to believe. The your with us or you don't care about anyone but yourself attitude is selfish, short sighted and demonstrates a unwillingness to think critically. This is going to be a shock to some, but those of us that question the response to this virus really don't want everyone to die...we really dont! But heres something that will probably raise some hackles here...I worry more for the younger people with their whole future in front of them, that are losing everything, my kids and grand kids, than I do for myself or seniors with pre existing conditions that feel the entire country must suffer irreparable harm just to keep them safe.

Even more than a stripped birthright of the American dream.
Was the course of action taken helpful or detrimental?
State per capita figures point to Initial course of action being incorrect. Yet, the PTB are reluctant to either abandon or alter this course.
The message is not a resounding "LEAVE US ALONE" but rather a "GET IT RIGHT OR LEAVE US ALONE"
We are not denying that people are dying nor disputing the quality of life in their final moments. We'd rather they not die at all. Unfortunately that is not a realistic goal and the policies imposed cannot be proven to have worked at all.
Again, here are the raw numbers
Dont let the idiot box think for you.

So; at the end of the day we KNOW from Europe's experience that what reduces infections and death is to 1) stay home as much as possible, 2) wear masks when away from home, 3) practice social distancing as much as possible, 4) wash your hands and keep your fingers out of your nose and off your face, and 5) avoid large groups.

Masks worked in 1918 where implemented as well. When people used them. How people needed to be convinced to wear masks during 1918 pandemic - Business Insider

...and this is why our governor is requesting mask usage in public places starting Friday. Breaking with tradition I actually watched today's pronouncements. I agreed with everything he said, including putting the blame for the increased percentage infection rate firmly where it belongs, with the population.

His brief talk about the state budget for the next two years was sobering, too.

More immediately, how much of the Lone Pine earthquake did you feel, Ed.

"Requesting"? That is not a demand, and means people have a choice, correct?

I live in the North East, Rhode Island to be specific. My wife is a retired medical professional. We have watched the evolving knowledge of this CV-19 Virus. Located as we are between NY and Boston. The virus got here earlier... Our lock down worked and we've gotten ahead of it. Our hospitalizations, occupied ICU beds, ventilator counts, deaths are going down.
Locking down the economy was always plan B, necessary because we already had community spread and we didn't know enough about virus transmission early on.
This virus hasn't gone away. In the South and West... you can call it a second peak on the first wave or an expert described it as a forest fire which will burn a long as we feed it fuel... the bodies of our fellow Americans. It doesn't have to be this way. We have learned so much... with so much death and destruction in the NE.

We know much more about how the infection spreads. No, masks are not perfect and they protect those around you from you. Those around you, wear their mask to protect you. If you have to be "close" proximity, mask up. It's not the old normal but a new normal we can all live with.

Yes, this is an imposition. It sorks. I don't care about politics. Public health has nothing to do with politics. Can't we, please, save American lives first? Aren't we, as Americans better than this?

Masks are not to protect the wearer. They are to protect the rest of us from the wearer who is either devoid of symptoms (a non-trivial percentage) or fall out inconsiderate.

The county in which I live has had a low rate in large part due to the vigorous efforts of our health department and other related entities, and the choices of individuals to apply good practices to the best of their ability.

This is not the flu or common cold.

That's not what I see in the charts.
A first landfall area logically shows as a tsunami force hit ... why ... because it's been festering for a good while under the radar. You would not look for your car keys if you didn't know you had a car.
Florida and Texas have been in the know for months.
Their current front waves look exactly like NY's ... did anything actually impact this at all?
I'd think the frontal curves to have less vertical component if policy was effective.
The same was true of Michigan, Their front wave hit in the middle of restrictions and failed to modify this slope in any visible way.
For what we are paying to do this, I don't see how we have gotten our monies worth

Across the street from my business is a city park. People used to play soccer and bring children. Now the park is full of vagrants, 24 hours a day sitting in groups on the benches on the ground. I don't see a mask anyplace, they don't have a sink, soap if you gave them sanitizer they would probably drink it.

They are still in the park, not all dead...

Likewise, I was expecting L.A. to get absolutely creamed due to the combination of population density, homeless concentration and it being a major shipping port both air and sea.
It didn't dodge a bullet, it dodged an entire machinegun belt early on.

One thing which has not yet been tried is self-flagellation which was widely practiced in northern and central Europe during the Black Plague of the 14th Century. Idea was to demonstrate your piety so God wouldn't strike you down. It probably wouldn't do much good, but it would be lots of fun to watch.

Two more weeks? Now when did we ever hear those words...

...before Fauci just changed it to a 'few more weeks?'

Be safe...be well.

To be sure, conflicting information
has been issued by the medical
researchers/epidemiologists. But
the advice given is the best known
at a certain point in time.

What the naysayers seem to want
is a neat, all-encompassing set of
rules, once issued and never changed.

What does seem true is where the known
regulations have been eased or done away
with, spikes in the virus have consistently
occurred after the "incubation" period of
two or less weeks.

Count me 'in' with direct input from a dear friend who is an ED nurse.

And you get street cred, PatriotX, as you know it's 'ED' now not 'ER.'

Cannot be at my local hospital, obviously, but I shall report (via my friend) herein.

Be safe...be well.

I respectfully invite anyone who feels this to not be a huge deal to come view a shift at the local ED.

Not wanting to dox the docs, I won't post the specifics here. I'm happy to share with anyone who reaches out to me the details from the 'horse's mouth'

Arrived last week in Fla after hiding for the past three months from everything and everyone. I was in shock of the activity of the beaches and surround night spots, every restaurant is packed, people standing in lines, bars have the parking lot full, no one wearing mask and mingling in huge mass in the bars and eating facilities. No wonder the new infection rate is going off the charts. This stuff is real, neighbor and relative caught the stuff a month ago, a retired guy who only went for gas and groceries, has no idea when he contacted the virus. 9 days at home in a huge sickness, massive chills, carried to the hospital at the end of day 9 and for the next 8 days, just there, but not on a respirator, he has been home about 6-8 days now and will recover. No one wants this "stuff". Way too many in the public are not even trying to protect there self .

Numbers just in...

...in my neck of the woods.

Metro population close to a million...14 patients on vents. Total. That's a four fold DECREASE since mid-April and overall we have the LOWEST number of Shanghai Shivers patients since early April.

Of course, presuming I don't drop dead here on Clearwater Beach due to the Flu Manchu, I will be dragging the Sweet and Sour Sicken home with me next Monday thus making those numbers waaaaaaaaay bigger.

Be safe...be well.

We live in Texas and both of my neighbors came down with Covid within the past two weeks. Despite all the work precautions, the kids were out hanging out with a bucket load of friends and having sleep overs. Well, a long time ago I heard the phrase, "Do not ever invite a vampire into your house". The three kids are doing fine, but they could also be the "typhoid brats".

A buddy's wife needed minor surgery for an abscessed dog bite near Houston and had to do it outpatient at a clinic as Houston-area hospitals aren't taking those cases today.

Must be the common cold.
