Would Anyone Rather Carry a Ruger LCR than their J Frame??

I decided on the LCR in 38 over the J frame. Bought mine with a factory installed xs sight and have been very pleased with the gun.

Great trigger, small, not bad on recoil. More accurate than I am.

My wife carries the 22 in LCR and is very capable with hers.

Best!

The J frame is Ok, but the LCR has some attributes that make it better. Personally I traded my J frame in on a Kahr PM9. It is the same weight, carriers more shells in a more effective caliber and is significantly thinner. The trigger is better and the little pistol more comfortable to shoot. All and all, as a pocket pistol the J frame is becoming obsolete.

1. 357 magnum in a small five shot revolver (regular or lightweight)-NO!
2. I do not pocket or ankle carry ! (real life experiences)
3. When I place my hand prior to drawing--I want a hand full of grip where I have full control of the grip without changing hand position.
5. "K" frame two inch in a IWB or OWB holster is my EDC

*** My Opinion: If I carry, carry a full size weapon

Not no, but hell no!

My brother has a brand new m60 and that thing is punishing enough to shoot 357 out of. I can't imagine what 357 out of the LCR would be like to shoot..it only weighs what, 13 oz empty??

I'll stick with my m36 for my small CC revolver. If I had to use it in a real emergency, 38spl can get the job done just fine.

Not really interested in lightweight 357's or 38's...I do have a 2-1/8" SP101 in 357 and a 3" square butt M36 and like them a whole lot as my small revolvers. They are not light, but like Bill Miner, "I like a gun with a little more heft".... :->

I would. For a carry gun it has to be reliable, even if it's made out of paper. So the materials don't bother me, plastic or not. Like Jimmy said "I want a hand full of grip" so I would swap the wood for Hogue rubber anyway. And the holsters I like are hybrid IWB so I have all the options I ever need for a LCR or a J frame. And i dont have problem with the 357 recoil. That being said I only carry something that small when i have no choice. Otherwise it's a full size, or close to, semi auto

I tried the LCR at my local range and found that I short stroked the trigger under rapid fire. The grip thing is easily solved w/the Smith and it's the platform I'm used to, so I'll stay w/my 442 or M38. So there's nothing wrong w/the LCR, it's just not for me.

I went back and forth between the lcr and j frames for a long time. the decision factor for me was the slightly smaller dimensions is the j frame and the grip of the lcr tended to grab my pockets more making it more difficult to get out. for some reason on the lcr I was slower to get on target. The lcr is a fine gun but for my needs the j frame was a better fit. I may get a 101 one of these days or a ruger 44 but for small and med frame s&w is my pick.

I carry an LCR and J frames. I prefer the sights on the LCR though.
Both are fine weapons that will serve you well.

Lot of responses here from what sound like grumpy old men who have no intention of trying any LCR. I'm an old man and a competitive shooter. I'm generally not grumpy.

I carry a 442 most of the time and also the Bodyguard 38 and the LCR. We have regular IDPA matches with at least one BUG stage. I usually shoot my 442 with 130 gr hardball and beat most of the auto shooters(partly because I CAN shoot weak hand only). I gave the LCR a chance to show its stuff and a strange and unacceptable thing happened. Shooting weak hand only, my left hand managed to push the cylinder release and put the gun out of battery. No more carrying an LCR!!

"Would Anyone Rather Carry a Ruger LCR than their J Frame??"
Lemme think about that a sec...
NO.
There are some firearms out there, including some Rugers, that I'd say maybe to if a half-way decent S&W was out of my price range or otherwise not available. Certainly not a butt-ugly plastic revolver (and I have to say the relatively new S&W .38 Bodyguard is out of the question also.) But since Js are plentiful, there's no reason to settle for anything but the "King of compacts."
I don't think I'm usually grumpy, I simply appreciate S&W quality.

Been actually thinking about the LCR as my next gun. EDC (most winter days) this beautiful humpback 649. Pretty heavy for pocket carry though but the most accurate snub I have ever shot. I am interested in the LCR for summer carry. I do have a 432PD loaded with .32 H&R Magnums but also looking for something I can shoot .38s in. I have to say just dry firing, the LCR trigger seems quite good.

Was at my LGS today and fondled a 340PD. Have to say I am intrigued with that gun… Oh, decisions decisions…
