Would Anyone Rather Carry a Ruger LCR than their J Frame??

I do carry an LCR daily- it's light weight, comfortable grip & good out of box trigger sold me. I currently have a hi-viz FO front sight which helps me a lot.
Don't get me wrong, I'm a smith fan, shooting M15, M625 in IDPA regularly and just got a 627 for USPSA. I just find the LCR is a better fit for me than the J frames.

I would prefer a J frame, however after an extensive search for one with a 2.5" or less barrel I decided to try out an SP101. Needless to say the SP101 turned out to be exactly what I was looking for ;)

Judging from your handle I'd assume that you own and possibly carry an 'N' frame. Can you carry concealed?

While not the person this question was directed at, I'll add an answer.

YES! ... and with ease given a good quality holster and belt combo.

Currently carrying a 5" N Frame IWB and similarly sized Colt's and Rugers carry with equal ease.

IMO once you move away from pocket carry, there's no real need for a J frame (or similarly sized) revolver. This probably isn't a popular opinion but It's no harder to carry a K frame on a belt than a J, and only minimally more effort to go to a N frame size .

Nothing more than an untucked T shirt is need for cover, at least in my experience.

I decided on a .357 LCR over a 642 about 2 years ago when I was interested in adding a revolver for conceal carry. I liked the looks of the 642 and the grip options, but what steered me to the .357 LCR was option of shooting .357, the feel of the Hogue grip, and the ability to upgrade the front sight. I installed the XS Big Dot and love it. Still, someday I hope to add a vintage J frame in the safe.

I carry an LCR in 38 special. I shot the LCR in 357 and it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. I didn't think the 357 would add much street effectiveness ( see Greg Ellifritz's research ) out of a short barrel and the increase in blast and recoil were a down side. I have quite a few J frames both light weight and standard but lately have been going with the Ruger because of the light weight and superior felt recoil probably due to the excellent grip design. It is also quite accurate at typical self defense distances. They have great triggers right out of the box whereas I have had to have modifications to my S&W's to get similar triggers.
I AGREE WITH YOU, 7shooter. IMHO, THERE IS LITTLE DIFFERENCE IN TERMINAL EFFECT BETWEEN .357 MAG AND .38 SPL+P AT SD / HD DISTANCES. THE ADDED BLAST AND RECOIL OF THE .357 MAG MAKES FOLLOW UP SHOTS MORE DIFFICULT. I'M A FAN OF THE SPEER GOLD DOT .38 SPL+P, 135 GR JHP LOW FLASH FOR SHORT BARRELS. THAT SHOULD GET THE JOB DONE AT 21 FEET OR LESS.
I AM VERY SURPRISED TO READ WHAT YOU HAD TO SAY RE THE LCR V THE J FRAME. I HAVE A 642-1, AND I'M NOT IN LOVE WITH THE TRIGGER. I NEVER EVEN CONSIDERED THE LCR. LIVE AND LEARN…..

J Frame .38

I haven't carried or shot an LCR, but I do carry and shoot a J Frame 442 .38. Tiny, light, accurate, kicks a little with 158gr hp ammo but I swapped the stock grips for Hogues for a good improvement. The DOA was worked by Clarks and is very nice. I lugged around an SP101 and a Rossi 462 for test purposes. Big difference in weight and comfort. Went back to the 442. Even though I have many plastic frame semi-autos, I don't care to much for the plastic revolvers. They just seem/feel cheap to me. Just my .02 cents worth.

the LCR is better, I own J frames shot both and Lcr shoots better and more accurate. I am going to buy a Lcr soon.

I recently bought an LCR 9mm.

Still in practice mode, but it's a nice revolver.

Great trigger, not bad recoil, moon clips, accurate, and no internal lock.

It may become a primary carry gun when I get used to it.

After two bad 442's and a bad 438 I said what the hell I'll try one so I bought a LCR 38spl and LOVE IT! Yes it's ugly as sin but the smooth trigger pull makes up for it. I've put many many rounds thru it and it gets better and better. If I want to fondle a great looking gun I break out my 649-2. I will never part with that gun. As for the newer Smith I think I'll pass.

I think my 442 might be bad. I can shoot it with a laser or have other people try it and it is not accurate no matter what. It is all over the place. The Lcr I tried I could make a tight group at 10 yards without much effort. I wonder if the barrel on the 442 is messed up.

ugh... where's the SOUL in an LCR? lol... had one, sold it, back to my J frame :-) the J just felt better all around.

Wow, this is a thread that won't die, eh? :D

I have a Model 36 and an LCR357 that I shoot 38 and 38+P. I carry the LCR with the stock Tamer grip. I hated shooting the M36 with the stock grips so put Pachmayr Compacs on it. Now it shoots 38 (not +P) pretty comfortably but that big grip doesn't pocket very well. Plus it could use some trigger work - LCR trigger is better.

I had a LCR 38 but just could not get used to it. It just feels too bulky to me. Have a 642 and love it.
