Your thoughts on self check outs?

Yes, I'm THAT guy who uses a checkbook. And, it freaks out people especially millennials because they don't expect people my age to know how to use a checkbook much less know how to write everything out.

If people get upset because because of the way I choose to pay, too bad. And it's not my problem. Go to another lane or self-check.;)

Made me think of when I was a kid and being sent up to smitty's market, but a bit short of cash.Mrs smitty would just write down the amount in her notebook and you'd pay her the next time

You don’t follow news and politics? Your post quoted below is full of both. Where’d you get that?

Don't follow news and politics. I only surf forums and email.

Plenty of local techs for the ISP roaming around. But I don't cry a river for the msm anyway. years of lies, and bias and lack of foresight in the industry cost them their jobs not the internet. It is the reason I don't watch or care about the news.

But not everything is relative when self checkouts made in China are shipped here and replace American workers. One or two techs can handle support for the 20 employees they replaced because the rest are in a call center in India.

Truckers are next you will see.

When the self checkouts were first put in place, they were miserably hard to use. The new ones aren't so bad. I don't like to use them, though, because with all the health issues I am having here lately, especially with my back, I have to use an electric cart. It's hard enough to get the items I need, some of which are always out of reach on the top shelf, but it's very difficult to stand and use the self-checkout. The Walmart we go to is open 24 hours, but after 8 pm they usually have only one register open, and none after 11pm. We are night owls, and like to shop late, so I always try to get there before 11pm. (My wife is in even worse shape than me, so I try to do all the shopping.)

The last few times I've gone to the store, it was around 9pm but no registers were open. They were supposedly short handed (yeah right.) I just tell the attendant at the self checkout that they will have to do it for me, because I can't, and they always do.

We are going to start ordering all our canned goods, sundries, and dry goods (paper towels, TP, etc) online, and Walmart will either bring it out to your car or deliver it to your home for free (I think there's a $35 minimum, but that's not hard to reach at all.) I still have to go to the store to get milk, produce, and eggs, since I am picky about those items. I guess I'll just have to go earlier in the day, and hope there is a cart available (very often there isn't) which is an advantage for going late...there are usually a lot of carts available.

I generally use them I find it quicker and the local WMT store is good anbout having a person there to verify liquor or spray paint type purchases.
I did have a good laugh at one at WMT. The screen I was about to use said in big letters "THIS *** IS OUT OF SERVICE" I was in agreement then realized *** also can mean Point Of Sale.

I use the self check outs, but it's embarrassing when people watch me argue with it!

They just refurbished our local McDonalds, they now have a self order kiosk. It will help with me not eating fast food.

Something I had not considered, I was checking out at walmart the other day at a regular checkout and had picked up a chicken pot pie and the cashier noticed that the upc code had been torn off. She sent another associate to the back to get me another, and as she did I overheard them commenting saying that people were tearing them off cheaper items and using it to scan more expensive items at the self checkout. Never thought of that possibility.

And you support the internet. Get your news here? You’re killing the local news jobs. Everything is relative . . .
No, the lying newspapers are killing the news jobs. I prefer a printed newspaper format to internet, but I will not pay people to lie to me. Mostly, I don't even read or listen to liars any more.

OPTIONS ARE A GOOD THING.

Either pro DIY or not, both can have it their way, win win. Doing WM'S work for them? Considering >90 % of all that low end stuff comes from overseas, nobody is objecting to paying other nations.

Once in a while, I use them, but not often. First of all, they tend to not work when I touch them, secondly, the attendant seems to disappear as soon as I approach one of the things and thirdly, I just don't like them.

To the guy that complains about people who use checks: Where do you
get cash? I'll bet you stand in a line at the bank or ATM. Cash does not
grow on trees.

Not a single self check out machine in town here. I was in the BIG city and

If I was in a big hurry to check out, and it bugged me to wait for the lady in from of me to have 30 seconds or so to talk about the kids with the cashier.

1 I would have to move cause that's the way it is here.

2 Take a look at my life. Whats my big hurry, when its time for me to die, I will. Other than that there is no where I have to be that's that important unless I screwed myself by poor planning.

A converted A personality. I can drag the A game out at work if I really have to, but, it doesn't seam to me the A got that much more accomplished than my B game. It did get and cause more stress. Stress will help me make sure I get to my own funeral as quick as possible.

I don't see using the self-check as doing the store's job for them.

I see it as the store giving me the option to get out of the store quicker.

And the employment of others does not enter into the picture. I'm responsible for my own employment. Let others do the same.

If they want to enable you to get out of the store quicker they could have 10 checkout lines open instead of 3.

There is another side to this. Before they went under, the local K-Marts around here removed their self-checkout aisles. Seemed a lot of people were "forgetting" to scan all their items.

It doesnt, my wife thinks it does. [emoji46]

I'll use 'em if I only have 1 or 2 things and there's a shorter line there, but beyond that, the cashiers are much better at that stuff than I ever will be.
