I've only shot one Glock. Two or three years ago I went to the range for a practice session, only to discover that the county SO was having their departmental qualifying day. I hung around to watch....the range SO (a friend of mine) was working with a couple of new deputies who were having a hard time hitting the B27 silhouette. He spotted me and called me out...."Hadley. Come out here. I hate to see anybody just loafing." "Ever shoot a Glock?", he asked. "Nope", sez I..."Never touched one." (My usual range pistol is a 1911, though my regular carry is a 642CT." "Here.", he says, handing me what I guess was a Glock...no idea what model. "Take the head zone. Obviously, it hasn't been touched." I dumped the full magazine into the A&B zones in short order. He turned to the new deputies and sez, "See...it's easy." I walked away with a smile on my face and them wondering who the h... is the old man who comes in here and shoots head shots. I still don't own a Glock, but I have to admit they're an easy shooting gun.

Sorry, I just don't understand that mind set.

I'd never turn down the opportunity to try a new and different gun/caliber even if it didn't generally interest me. I'd even try a Jennings or Lorcin if my firing line neighbor offered.

Not just regarding firearms, this whole "US vs THEM" group identity with cars, trucks, chili, pizza, beer, sports teams, and almost everything imaginable leaves me puzzled.

I HATE Glocks! Especially (clockwise from top left) the G31, G21SF, G22 and the G17.

I have "shot a Glock" and I do not like them because I HAVE shot a Glock. Don't like that "plastic" frame or that weird trigger.

My first experience with a Glock was a friend who offered a chance to shoot his G17. Like SJMJax, I always welcome the chance to shoot something new. Maybe my hands are an unusual size or my grip is weird or something, but that Glock pointed perfectly for me. I easily shot my best score of the night with a pistol I'd never held before!

Of course, my pistol marksmanship is legendary... legendarily awful! But the Glock put every round in the black.

Each to his own of course. No one has to try a Glock if they have an aversion to them. However, you may be pleasantly surprised if you give one a try!

Have posted before, (probably getting tired of the same old story, but the new members need to hear it):D

I carried a Glock 21C (45ACP) for several years when I went to plainclothes because of the weight of my 4506 was just too much. Constantly went around pulling up the pants.

It worked well and I really had no complaints.

When the M&P in 45 ACP came along, I could not wait to get my hands on one to try and see if it fit my hand well.

I now carry a M&P 45 ACP and could not be happier.

I still maintain to this day that the Glock is an effective tool, I still carry my Model 32 (357 Sig,compact version) as primary off duty and back up gun. Lots to be said for 16 rounds (extended magazine) of 357 Sig in a off duty situation.

I also maintain that Glocks do not have a soul.

My 4506, my M&P 45, and my S&W 1911 most certainly do have a soul.

...I declined politely saying that if I shot it I would never be able to say "I never shot a Glock"

Trying Glocks is sort of like inviting a vampire into your house, I suppose. ;)
I'm with some of the other posters here; carry a Glock 23 daily. For me it wasn't about how it shoots at the range, or how it looks. It just had to be accurate, reliable, light, have enough firepower, low bore axis and carry slim enough without a cylinder or thumbsafetys poking me. The medium or subcompact Glocks are the only ones that fit the bill for me. Not as pretty as my 1911s or model 29, but it's a tool not a showpiece.

Like others have said..I have guns that I really like, my S&Ws...but if I could only have 1 (what a horrid thought) it would be a Glock. Never ever had a problem.

Has anyone handled one of the glocks with the new grip? I've seen one recently somewhere, and it looked to be a slight improvement over the current one. If I could have one I would get the nineteen, I like it 's ability to conceal, with a lot of firepower.

There are those that demonize and those that adore the Glock. It should be noted that S&W is on their 3rd rendition of Polymer which includes the Sigma, SW99, and now the MP series.

I’ve dabbled in the world of 9mm Luger semiautomatic pistols such as Berretta, SIG, BHP and S&W. There are esthetically more pleasing examples than the Glock but from a functionality stand point the Glock excels.

A friend of mine likes 'em. He'll bring 'em out to the range, always has to describe his "new" model number (they all look the same) and demo how "it always goes bang" (I think that is stamped on the side), and how this one has a really great trigger (compared to a Daisy Red Ryder). Then I'll shoot it just to humor him, opine on its spectacularly ugly aesthetics and ergonomics, and say something like "that's not bad for a $200 throw down... ...what, you mean you gave more than 200 for that one too !?! Man, what a tool for a tool, fool."

Then I shoot my S&Ws, Rugers, and yes, plastic HKs. Which all go bang. With accuracy and style.

You lost me on that one. I assume it's like "never had a virgin."
My understanding is that both are nice; try one...the Glock, and then sell me your smiths.

I will just have to take the word of so many that the Glock is hands down the most reliable gun ever. And the easiest to strip as well.
I'll stick to my Colt 1911s, My Radom P-35s, The occasional Semi auto, and my Smith Wheel guns,
Even though I live with lots of older, Better built stuff, I still find the need for a PC and a TV,,,,,,
It is interesting to see what is said here, I will try and keep my mind open next time I am offered to shoot one. . .
