Never shot a "Glock"

I own many different brands, I'm not partial to any. When it comes down to what I wear on my hip most times to protect myself and my loved ones, it's my Glock 23.

I've owned many Dodge cars and trucks. I have many pistols in my collection. There are no 9mm, 40 and no Glocks. The only two plastic wonders I have ever owned was an XD (it's gone) and my M&P 45. :D

Yep, those Glocks are so bad, S&W had to go and make the Sigma and get sued over it. But the Sigma has so much more "soul"

"I never shot a Glock"

Ignorance is bliss, isn't it? :D

I wish I could say that I haven't, but I have.
It's kinda like admitting that I dated an ugly girl. :(

There is a common misconception that trumpets will sound, a plethora of camo-clad, tatical super models will come out of the sky singing and dancing and the little switch in your head in the gun department will turn on the "Perfection" sign, and all will be bliss- don't worry, it ain't so comrade.
At least, for some of us. ;)

Amazing what good marketing can accomplish, isn't it? :p

Sure, I'd take one if you gave me one- to trade for something else.
I don't play well with people from the land of Tactical.

All to true.
I dont have anything against Glocks, Just nothing for them either.
I would carry my Colt Defender, And have shot nearly anything handed to me, But when I look at a Glock, I see nothing but a plastic gun, Now granted I do own and will admit, 1 plastic gun~~~~~~ A Keltec P3AT that goes with me to weddings, the Dentist office and the like,,, But nearly once a week I think about getting rid of it...
I dont feel the need to own plastic,,,,
BUT~~~ I am an odd man~~~
The woman and I live in the 50's, The cook wear, My guns, The furnature ect, We dont have a microwave,, But have cool Oster Beehive blenders and the like,,,
We really dont have more than a couple plastic items, There is no pressboard here either,
So I like steel and wood,,,, Maybe this has something to do with it, But I may go to my grave without ever shooting a Glock/ S&W M&P and the like.
Oh well.
We are all different here and that is what makes this such a fun place!

Pred, if you really enjoy living in the '50's, you might want to consider giving your computer away. PC's were not available for quite a few years.

Hey! They had computers in the 1950's.
Or at least, the U.S. government had them.

They just took up a whole house, you had to feed them information on cards, have a electrical substation nearby, used radio tubes and transistors and they were called "differential analyzers."

Don't let my screen name fool you.

The reason I am known as "Glock 'em down" is because I had never belonged to an internet gun forum before. The very first gun forum I became a member of was - my HOME - Oklahoma Shooters Association. I chose the name "Glock 'em down" after a CLEET instructor who's favorite saying was, "If you can't knock 'em down, GLOCK 'em down!"

It just sorta stuck with me. ;)

Anyway...I became a member of OSA back in May of 2006. I was a big time advocate for the Glock pistol at that time. I still am...to an extent. I bought my very first Glock (a model 23) way back in 1991 when everybody wearing a badge was switching over to "wondernines" in lots of different flavors (Beretta, Ruger, Sig and our beloved S&Ws). The Glock was still new, but it immediately got popular with agencies like Miami, Florida and New York outfitting their grunts with them.

I started my LE career 20 years ago, in the summer of 1989. I carried a wheel gun. My first was a "borrowed" Smith & Wesson 3 inch model 13. I finally made enough money to buy my own - a model 681. I carried it for about 6 months or so, until the semi-auto craze caught on. I wanted a Beretta 92F (thanks Riggs and McClane!

) but my chief said, "nope! There ain't gonna be no damned Dick Tracy guns here as long as I'm the chief of this outfit!"

So what did I do? Switched over to a Smith & Wesson model 629!

My chief finally (after much prodding by myself and my Captain ;)) allowed us to switch to bottomfeeders, IF it was .45 caliber, held no more than 10 rounds (he was afraid of the "spray & pray" method) and the weapon had to be American made.

So much for the Beretta!

Anyway...I decided on a Smith & Wesson model 645 (yeah...I liked Sonny Crockett too! :D) Carried it for about a year and got bit by the plastic bug.

I've carried a Glock .40S&W (both the 22 and the 23) on and off duty from 1991 up until about 7 or 8 months ago.

When dad gave me his Victory model for Christmas this past year, that's when I fell back in love with the ol' S&W sixgun. My love and passion for the Smith & Wesson revolver was immediately rekindled!

I still carry the department issued plastic Glock 22 ON duty, because my boss makes me. I don't personally "own" a Glock.

The Glock is a damn fine shooter and hits EXACTLY at the POA. For me anyway. The trigger is about as good as a gate latch, but it's consistant. They are as ugly as homemade soap, but they are easy to maintain, field strip (guts and all) with just a punch...hell even a toothpick will break it down and the damned things just work! The Glock damn near ruined my chances for any other gun. Not that it felt good in the hand, but rather, it felt so BAD that every other gun just didn't feel right!

I know...
screwy.gif
...that's a strange way of putting it, but it's the truth.

As for off duty use? Yeah...there always a Smith & Wesson K frame on my hip and a mighty J frame in my pocket!

I still prefer my twenty-three S&W pistols (I like collecting pistols with soul), but give the Glocks their due.

All but two of the 23 S&W pistols I own are 3rd generation pistols and the two that ain't are 2nd generation S&Ws, all have plenty of soul. I got my Tupperware fix with my Glocks, no need for S&W copies of the real thing. ;)

I think a lot of folks get entirely too wrapped up in brand, etc, not just in guns, but anything. Something I will always remember happened about ten years ago when I was at Blackwater, I noticed the director of training was using a SIG P226 and asked him why he liked the SIG. He said he was intimately familiar with the pistol but the primary reason was because he had a TON of mags from his time in the SEAL teams. One of the other guys asked him if it was his preferred pistol, he said "I don't care what pistol I've got as long as it works, makes no difference to me if it's a SIG, Beretta, Glock, Hi-Power, 1911, etc, as long as it works." We were with Charlie Custshaw and Charile mentioned the director had "been there, done that and seen the elephant many times." I've always remembered what he said and considered it sage advice.

Glocks are certainly not for everyone... No accounting for individual tastes anyway.

But is there any other pistol that people (even those who have no experience with it whatsoever!) will go so far out of their way to malign?

Sir, FWIW, I've shot a few Glocks and handled many more. I've never owned one, but that'll probably change sooner or later. I rather like them for what they are. Different tools for different jobs and all that.

Hope this helps, and Semper Fi.

I have had a lot of experience with Glock type pistols. When I was a kid I had several plastic pistols made by Mattel. Daisy BB guns use a plunger to fire the BB which works the same way as a striker. So between Mattel and Daisy I have shot a lot of Glock style guns. When I was a child I played with childish things but when I became a man I put away childish things. Larry

Consider this stolen my good man. :D

Never shot one, never even held one. I guess I just prefer the classic designs, 1911 BHP, Mauser HSc and so on.

At last count, I think I have 14 Glocks. I only have one that gets carried on-body much, my 1st Gen. 17 on which I've shortened the butt to 19-length. It is my weekend "dirty work" gun, which usually gets cleaned with an air compressor, if it gets cleaned. Glocks point high for me, and the factory triggers, of all varieties, are hard for me to shoot with the precision I can achieve with 1911-types. However, when one of my CHL students needs an autoloader to use in qualification, I loan a Glock. Ugly, yes, but they work and work and work...

I can still say I Have never shot a Glock.....my daughter owns 2 of them, Every time she asks me if I want to put a few rounds thru it I gust grab a Sig or S&W..... and smile....

Bob

I have never shot any semi-auto pistol. All of my rifles are semi's,tho.Go figure. All but one revolver are S&W's[my one revolver that's not a S&W is a Charter Arms]
