I guess this comes from reading here and there but it confuses me.
I buy a gun because I want to own it. I don't buy all guns I want because I don't have all the money needed, but, I don't buy a gun because it is rare. Just me, I just like to shoot.
I find myownself looking at guns and not really wondering how much it is worth.
I do not pay any amount asked but do not question if I am getting the best deal and can I make a buck out of it.
Why do you buy a gun ?
Blessings

I was just going to post---How many guns do you need ?
Most of my guns i buy are for shooting and to have fun with them. I like to shoot just Revolvers.I have 10 Revolvers that i shoot from 22 to 357 -Rev. and 1 -44 -Rev.
Some guns i bought for my son & daughter to get when i die. I have 25 guns total. I got all these guns from selling my fishing rods. I had over 86 rods. I down sized and bought guns. I bet most of the guy here have a lot more then me.

William, your approach to buying guns sounds reasonable to me.

Me, I tend to go in waves. I get all excited about one gun or another, study the heck out of it, and then make the leap.

But I find myself thinking, these days, about cutting back... I think about how many do I want to be responsible for...

I might, might I say, back off to a Win 94, a K22, and an M65. That really does about cover it. For me.

I should be sellin' 'em,but I bought two more this week. Why? Damned if I know. I guess 'cause I like 'em. Sure ain't 'cause I NEED 'em. Go figure.
f.t.

Me too, FT. I'm at the age where I should be selling a lot of stuff off, not just guns. That said, picked up a shiny, new Henry Big Boy last week, and a pristine, used Colt Police Positive the week before that. My credit card and I won't be friends any time soon.

I buy because I can and I am still trying to have a happy childhood. I was jerked up dirt poor and had to do the best I could but I wanted a good gun. As soon as I could I got a S&W pistol, Winchester rifle and a LC Smith shotgun. Since then I have decided I need a spare or two and maybe an upgrade or two. Life is more fun if you have a little fun now and then. Larry

If I want it and can afford it, well we only live once!

I'm a target shooter, primarily bullseye. Like the previous post, I like precision engineered devices. In particular, those that have had the high level of skill required to produce accurate match grade firearms. So my interest is in 1911s and S&W revolvers, and the M41. Would like to find a M52 and a Python someday. Service grade autos like M&Ps and Glocks don't really interest me, they're just tools that someone threw together.

I'm also a (very) amateur saxophone player, and marvel at the skill that goes into producing an instrument that plays well. They are works of art.

My weakness is 3rd Gen semi autos. If its TDA, stainless, & has black grips on it, I'll most likely have to have it. Unless I already have it. I have managed to stay away from multiples except for one. I have another grail gun arriving today...yes, a 3rd Gen. I will admit that I'm starting to look at blued or black 3rd Gens lately. I saw a Model 4505 on line that I had to have, until I saw the price! Rarity does play into it a little bit for me, but not totally.

A while back I was in my LGS that I have patronized for many years. I know the employees, and owner well after all these years, and I have bought a good number of guns from them.

I was standing in front of one of the glass cases, and the employee that I had been talking to just all of a sudden started laughing really hard. . . . He looked over at the owner of the store, and said while laughing, "Can you believe him. He just lusts for them, he wants them all, he just can't wait to get his hands on them, and would take them ALL home if he could."

We all started laughing, because that pretty well sumed er' up.

With rifles I have tried to get so that I had all my precieved needs covered.
22lr small game
223 Mini 14
223 heavy barreled Ruger
6mm heavy premium grade Douglas barrel
308 Mohawk 600
30-338
338WM
Covered from rabbits to Moose and Kodiak bears. But, I am dreaming of a 416/50BMG

Pistols I am kind of some just came by and some had to have but I guess mostly it is 22 or big bore.
Ruger 22 auto
Rossi 22 DA J framed sized revolver
S&W 18 in 22
S&W 10, added adjst sights and 357 cylinder
Charter Arms 44 Bulldog
S&W 629
S&W 25-2 45 acp & 45LC
S&W 25-5 45 LC
S&W Brazilian I am making into a carbine 45 ACP 45 LC
A TC with 222, 30 and 357 Herret barrels

So why did I buy a Taurus 5 shot 44 special???? To see if I can make it into a 45ACP with clips. If so maybe I can do it with a 696.

I try to make the excuse to myself that it will fill a nitch in my shooting needs. Sometimes I kinda lie to myself. LOL

I am open to suggestions as to a hole in my firearm needs. Ya, I know a 1911. NO 9mms. I already have a 357 and a couple 22s. The 460 and 500 are so heavy I may as well carry a rifle.

when i shoot i feel like im with my dad doing what we did when i was a kid. it was one of the very few things my father and i saw eye to eye on.
i also really enjoy ballistics ,maybe not in the sense that i can calculate trajectories and such. more like ill throw things if i have to ,just to watch em fly and land/impact.
i dont buy whatever i want ,but i try.
i learned to shoot with single actions as a boy ,now i "compete" in cowboy action so i "need" cowboy guns and spares.
i like target shooting so i have a number of s&w
this forum and a bunch of the old guys at my club have made me realize that i can measure my self worth by how many guns i have;)
