WHY DO YOU BUY A GUN ?

Because I live in America.....and cause they won't let me own a Sherman Tank!! LOL

Actually, you can own a Sherman, fully functional too. I know someone who bought the Tiger tank from the Munster Museum around 10 years or so ago.

Can i ask you guys ? How many guns do you have ? I'm up to 25 guns. I bought and gave away 4 and sold about 6. Should i slow down ?

I was up to about that many but that terrible meteorite accident took care of every last one of them.;)

I enjoy target shooting and actually find it very relaxing. I think it's the enjoyment of being outdoors (my range is out in the country), and being with like-minded folks, and concentrating on something enjoyable instead of something work-related, and just the smell of the spent gunpowder and the pleasure of punching holes where I'm trying to punch 'em.

Driving back home afterwards is always a pleasure, and I don't have a care in the world. My wife agrees; she says she likes me when I get back from the range. Not that I'm not likable all the time, but you know.:D

A reasonably/fair priced wheel gun is my weakness. S&W, Ruger, Colt. I am just fascinated by the mechanism of a revolver. A 19th century man living in the 21st I am told.

Acorn, I saw you under my MO deer stand this year. :D

I think your statement pretty well sums me up also.

Because they call to me and ask me to take them home to my house.

I find it very hard to resist as they are all very polite and seem sincere when they ask.

I have hunting guns. But buying modern guns wasn't me. I wanted guns that been there and done that. I collected a few surplus military guns. But it got to the point I had the ones I wanted and stalled for a few years while my thoughts regrouped. Then the new grandson was born. I then purchased some 22 cal guns for him. Then I purchased a s&w k22 masterpiece and it was my first s&w. Now my love for s&w grew. Now my next s&w purchases were a m57 & m58. Then I found a piece of s&w gold well two pieces a k38 combat masterpiece and a k38 target masterpiece. There as silky smooth as a....this is a family forum so let's say I love these two too. Then I found a brand new s&w m24, all my new n frames are in the world famous s&w nickel. Of course my new n frames were half the cost of list too. Then I found a new dirty Harry m29-10 in the used case still unshot with a presentation case with all the papers for half the cost of new too. The only downfall was its in blue not the nickel guns I'm after. But I bit the bullet with $600 burning a hole in my pocket and bought it too. I still lust for new nickel finish s&w n frame revolvers. Yes at 63yo I can still lust for something. I only shot the m58 in 41mag and I fell in love just don't tell my misses of 40 years I'm cheating on her. What took me so long to buy a s&w revolver? Every time I see a s&w n frame for sale I reach for my plastic and the salesman comes running over to help me get rid of my mad money.

My first hobby was gravely tractors too. I was buying the old models of the "L", "LI" and the "L8" fixing and selling them while keeping one for myself.
I purchased up to ten non running l' s at one time. I'd go thru them, fix them and paint and sell them and buy more. With my L8 with the open side 4-1 snowblower it threw 4" of heavy wet slush up and over the telephone poles. All my neighbors were in ah watching this animal throw slush in the air so high and never skip a beat. My gravely day's ended when my knees went bad. I work on cub cadets, farmall cubs and 154 cubs now.

I'll never forget my gravely day's with using the rotary plow with tilling gardens too.

I'm sure many members here can remember the hours spent playing cops and robbers, cowboys and Indians and army. As a youngster I was generally well armed with a favorite cap pistol or a Daisy air rifle when outside playing.

No real guns in the house while I was growing up as Mom & Dad saw no need for them and would not allow any in the house. That didn't deter me from wanting any number of them.

LTC

Mom didn't like guns. Dad had a few that his brothers sent back from Germany and Italy, but Dad never used them or even brought them out.

I bought a few guns in the mid 80s when my father in law taught me to shoot. I kind of put them away when my kids were little. However, once the kids were grown and my parents died in 08 and 09 I started to add guns. At first I wanted to connect with my parent's generation and bought a Garand, a M1 Carbine, and a K 98k. One of my Dad's brothers and one of my Mom's brothers spent 1943-45 in Italy. Another of my Dad's brothers walked across France and into Germany with a Garand.

That interest rolled over into adding a few more S&W revolvers from the 80s, a M1917, plus a couple of shotguns and others.

Why I buy guns?

To hunt with, protection while night fishing, protection in the home, in the yard, at the mall, at the local lunch shop, protection all the time anywhere 24/7/365days.

I have liked and wanted guns as far back as my memory reaches. At
the age of seven I got a double holster and cap gun set for Christmas.
I was one happy child. Cap guns, cork guns, BB guns and finally a 22
single shot rifle. I buy guns because I want to own them. I have
bought some of the guns I wanted as a poor teenager but couldn't
afford like Winchester exposed hammer pump 22s and a couple of
Marlin 39M Mountie lever actions. But it goes way beyond that
as I've gotten older and able to buy what I want. I buy guns that I
like and can appreciate from a design and quality perspective. Like
S&W revolvers, Ruger SAs, Browning and Beretta autos, Mauser
rifles ( too many of these ), and several other types. I'm always
looking for a bargain but I just can't get interested in any gun that
lacks design integrity ( from my perspective ) even if very popular.
Like some others on here I have guns I bought several years ago
and have never gotten around to firing yet. Buying guns becomes an
addiction and I am at the age where I need to seriously
downsize rather than buying more but it's hard to do.

I was just going to post---How many guns do you need ?

Here's the easy answer: It's the Bill of Rights not the Bill of Needs.

Does that help? It does for me. All I know is that I would like to buy one more. And "one more" has led me to waaaay more than I need. Over and over.

This has gotten out of hand !
I should have said when you buy a gun, what is the deciding factor in choosing this particular gun that you buy-----then, It don't fit into the space allowed for a title. :(:D
Blessings

I guess this comes from reading here and there but it confuses me.
I buy a gun because I want to own it. I don't buy all guns I want because I don't have all the money needed, but, I don't buy a gun because it is rare. Just me, I just like to shoot.
I find myownself looking at guns and not really wondering how much it is worth.
I do not pay any amount asked but do not question if I am getting the best deal and can I make a buck out of it.
Why do you buy a gun ?
Blessings

pretty much the same reason. Because I want one an it feels good an shoots well for me. Also I can't afford everyone I like

I'm a target shooter, primarily bullseye. Like the previous post, I like precision engineered devices. In particular, those that have had the high level of skill required to produce accurate match grade firearms. So my interest is in 1911s and S&W revolvers, and the M41. Would like to find a M52 and a Python someday. Service grade autos like M&Ps and Glocks don't really interest me, they're just tools that someone threw together.

I'm also a (very) amateur saxophone player, and marvel at the skill that goes into producing an instrument that plays well. They are works of art.

I'm also a bullseye shooter and my interests have always been towards the best target guns I could afford (and maybe not afford) When I started shooting, the guns from John Giles were the best. I have a 1911 wadcutter gun and a .22 from him. I couldn't get his .38 but bought a Model 52 instead. I carry a Model 60 and I also have no interest in Glocks (not worth the dollars) I also have a very old shotgun that I've never fired and all my guns will be passed to my son. I'm giving them to him with the understanding that he doesn't sell any. At least I would hope he doesn't.

To compensate for my lack of being a muscle bound gorilla that can kick someone's butt. I can mess up your day without breaking a sweat :p

In reality, I just like 'em. I enjoy target shooting, and variety is the spice of life. That's the reason I have 3 semi autos and 2 revolvers.

Why ?
Well there are many reasons.
I can not afford expensive art objects.
I like craftsmanship so steel and wood at the top of the list.
Investing , trading and such are a joy to me.
The history of guns interest me.

By the way we are not buying guns. We are investing in the future and our freedom.
I feel patriotism and utilizing my rights is important.
Being able to go in my back yard a great way to spend time with our kids. Popping a couple of rounds off. If you can find ammo.
Gifting some of my collection the wife and kids NOW rather than waiting until it an estate issue after I return to our Father just pleases me.
I had no other family members in my history who collected of owned guns. To my knowledge anyhow. I wish there would have been something from grand pappy to pass on.
So besides liking to shoot and loving freedom to hunt and defend my family , I just love the smell of gunpowder.

By the way, we are not buying guns. We are investing in the future.

My wife buys shoes. I buy guns -- mine, hers and ours. She is a very understanding woman. I met her at an indoor gun range. She loves a good sale, my reloads with my cast bullets are the best bargain she ever found.

It's not what you do, it's how you present the facts. I'm saving money!
