Wearing a face mask...

President Trump and Dr. Fausi want you to wear a mask so you don't transmit the virus unknowingly to someone else. It's not to keep you from getting the virus.
I don't see them wearing a mask.

Maybe because they are being tested often enough to know they don't have it - so they know they aren't any danger of transmitting it?

Like anything else you do the right thing because you care about your fellow man. Lots of people don't care about anyone but them selves.

Some locality's near me are requiring masks in public. The fine is $1000 in some towns.

As far as wearing it in your car? There might be extenuating circumstances you don't know about. Like frequent stops. Or having just dropped off someone with symptoms.

Probably explains why on the news you rarely see a jogger or cyclist wearing a mask. It's not because of arrogance.

Exactly! I tried it and it was too uncomfortable. Besides there's nobody around to give it to or receive it from.

It's a virus not a disease, there is no cure. There may be a vaccine some day...….

Cure = an effective vaccine

I wear a mask when we go grocery shopping. When I'm out in our rural lands, with absolutely no others around, mask is not worn.

^^^ Where do localities get that kind of power? Those politicians need to be removed from office and jailed.
We have a new ordinance here requiring masks.Took my 88 yr old mother to an X-ray facility yesterday. Some guy walks in after us and the nurse at the door asks him if he's been tested for the virus. He had, just that morning in fact, but no results yet!
These ordinances are being passed because guys like that are too stupid to stay home, even when they think they have the virus...

Most laws when you get to the root of it are passed either because someone is selfish or has no common sense or both. A few bad apples....

If everyone did the right thing and looked out for their fellow man. We'd have no need for any laws at all. These local ordnances are good examples.

It is disgusting to me to observe how easily people will submit to totalitarianism. Again, I ask, where do these governing powers get the authority to do make these laws?

Second hand smoke, gun control, global warming, COVID 19... "if it saves just one life.

Fear overrules common sense.

^^^ Why would you be wearing a mask on a bike?

Spin daily within 34 miles of 6' wide asphalt paths going through our mountain community, slip the mask up when passing the occasional clueless groups clogging the pathway (we have signs up to maintain 6') as a precaution, comes back down after the pass.
Wife has an auto-immune issue, Covid would take her right out, so on advice of her doctor being ultra cautious.
We've both retired health care professionals, over 60 years between us in hands on managing health care operations, we well understand what's hype and what's real.
This ones very real.

The news channel's typo in the Harris County coverage is a bit funny, but also aggravating - these idiots are making a living "communicating" and don't proofread carefully. I have seen worse, though. I know of a place where at different times both "public" and "county" had errors that were not caught until the documents went out. My Evil Twin Sister (colleague) used this as an opportunity to remind the entity in question that review was supposed to be done BEFORE release.

I see that our MA governor is making national news with his "must wear masks" decree. As poorly as I think of our governor, I can't say that the mask decree really bothers me. We are still in the middle of the plateau here and as long as he isn't requiring hard-to-breathe-in N95 masks, it's not a problem for me personally. I've been wearing masks in public since before it was the thing to do anyway. :p

On the other hand, his unconstitutional shutdown of the guns shops and our 2A rights is really ticking me off. There are a couple lawsuits against him for that, but the courts are snail slow and that means they will get away with it. I find that detestable and I hope they get slammed for it.

Everyone, forever, must submit because someone does something dumb, makes a lot of sense.
They should make a law to outlaw dumb people. :D

From the Constitutional case law of the US Supreme Court, upholding in the specific case I'll cite, a public health driven statute pertaining to smallpox inoculation. The leading case, as far as I know, is Jacobson v. Massachusetts, 197 U.S. 11 (1905). I know that in my state (WA), there is a collection of cases based on Jacobson. (Not my area of work or responsibility, but we have had a lot of research done by and for our state association. I've skimmed the emails, and one of my colleagues is public health counsel in our county and has done a lot of work on the issue in the last 2 months. I sometimes work with her on such things.) As far as I know, the standard of review for such is "rational basis", which is a very deferential standard. (Compare that to research I have done on a stupid gun law in this state enacted by Initiative; the authority I found is consistent with the 2d Amendment being assessed under a "strict scrutiny" standard, which is the opposite of deferential.)

What is being done now is very similar to what was being done 102 years ago, but for differences stemming mostly from greater knowledge and increased levels of congestion. I direct your attention to this article: The doctor and the pandemic: Spokane's 1918 fight against the Spanish influenza | The Spokesman-Review for a bit more education. Remember that very few people alive then are now, and those few probably have no useful memory of the time. To paraphrase something that Pat Rogers used to say: "History did not start when you were born."

I don't like masks and am very uncomfortable around people who are wearing them ... but I suck it up.

In PA it not a law (Wearing of face mask). The Gov Wolfe came out with what I call an edict for lack of a better word. His edict also says that anyone who states they have a medical reason for not wearing a mask is exempt from wearing one without the need to provide medical documentation.

I have COPD due that condition I don't have to mask up....I wear the mask 90% of the time when around people in stores, gas stations, etc. BUT when one those Mask Nazi types at Walmart starts giving me a hard time about wearing a mask in the parking lot before I am counted and told I enter the store. I tell them I a medical condition COPD, hand them a copy of the Wolfe's edict with the exemption high lighted and keep walking into the store. If they would have kept their mouth shut about masking up I would have.

Who...

Was that unmasked man anyway?
