Model 520 Information

The serial no on the right grip is very very close, but does not match. There is no serial no on the left grip.

how much to deduct for no 520 box, tools, paperwork? otherwise new unfired.

Mine is looking better all the time. I bought two of them around 2005, maybe a little earlier for $500.00 each. One I bought from a forum member. The other I found at a show a few days later. I kept one and let my friend Leland Ray have the other. I still have mine. Leland passed away a year ago and I don't know what he did with his.

I bought one in early to mid 2020 if I remember correctly. It's been fired but you can barely tell. Had box, paperwork, tools, and letter for 1450. That's in CA too so it had a slightly inflated price.

Bought an excellent 520 without box for $1200 about a year ago. I had been tracking them for years, local shop finally had one. I didn't want to go that high but it is the going rate.

Pardon my ignorance, folks...

Besides the PC Magnas and fixed sights, how else does the 520 differ from the Model 28?

-Bill

The Model 28s all had adjustable sights. The Model 520 is set up with fixed sights.

In essence, the (real) 520, this model, is an updated M20 ( Heavy Duty) in .357 instead of .38. I have too much trouble with low profile fixed sights now to make one really interesting to me.

Had two, both NIB. Let them go so I didn't have to worry about them. Picked up a 681 instead. Don't worry about that one and shoot the snot out of it. Past the point of babying pristine blue steel Smiths-although I do like them

Babysitting the boxes and goodies for next owner is even worse.

I think the finish on a 520 is much nicer than on a Model 28. The Model 28 had a 6" option while the Model 520 was only available in the 4". Of course, the other major difference is that the 520 is significantly less common.

i was surprised to find this resurfaced thread and I couldn't resist.
