Just got my M&P 10,
added a Hogue grip and a Troy TRX (12") to her
What I really dislike is that stock... My RRA AR15 has an "Operator A2" and I love it, so I am looking to move in that direction. Just not real sure of what needs to be done to change over to an A2 length fixed stock from a collapsible... I.e. new buffer tube (obviously) but new buffer and spring? ....educate me please

New tube, New Full size Rifle buffer (MP10 is a carbine one ), and spring. I just recently went through this thought option and researched it out.

Ditto, tube, buffer, and spring are needed. Also, not sure if you've picked a stock yet, but I put on the Magpul MOE Riflestock. I am very happy with the looks, quality, and price. Just my two cents.

I saw that Spikes Tactical makes a buffer spacer, so you can use your old spring and buffer and you'll just need a new tube.
It's (the spikes' spacer) is about $25

Have not shot our M&P10 yet, as the Troy folding battle sights just arrived today, but seems a few people complain about recoil and the buttstock. A .308 is a light recoiling cartridge, especially in a semi-auto.
My son and I both like the buttstock on our RRA Operater .223
Will the following RRA A.30LAR-8 Operator CAR Stock Kit(Part #308A0250N), be easy enough to fit to a M&P10?
Rock River Arms: RRA LAR-8 Buttstock Kits
We will shoot first, but neither of us is excited about the fit and feel of the factory buttstock.

I sold a Mako GL-Shock to the only person I know with a M&P10. He loves it and the shock absorber does in fact do more on this 7.62 than it did on a 5.56.

I change my mind. Either the PRS or MOE Rifle Stock.

Since I like the RRA Operator A2 so much already, I am just going to get one for my M&P10

LMT SOPMOD was the most comfortable of the 4 stocks I've had on it.

Of the ones I own I rate them:

LMT>Magpul ACS>Magpul CTR> original stock

It "should" but you need to order a (newly available) spacer from S&W. Essentially it will allow you to install any fixed A2 rifle stock - much like how S&W utilizes the Magpul MOE rifle stock on their M&P10 CAMO model.

See this thread here:

yes...that is my thread... and I still dont understand...

look at the picture above everything mounts up there is no interference...

customer service (on the phone) tells my this would work... the CS guy on AR15.com says I need a spacer...

what does the spacer do?
my RRA stock comes with a receiver tube, spring, and buffer.

I am confused... How do you know?

you should go shoot it one shot, no magazine installed and see if it cycles out the round. If it works, then put two in the magazine, chamber one, fire, and see if it clears and loads the next one. If all goes well and works for a magazine full - I say it works and to heck with whatever they say.

After a considerable amount of digging I believe I have my answer.
I have to do some checks this evening to make sure my BCG will not contact the lower receiver, i.e. remove the spring and make sure the buffer contacts the back of the tube before the BCG makes contact. Then everything should be good to go.

I hope all works out cause your setup is one I am looking at doing on my rig, so I am keeping my fingers crossed for you!

I posted this reply in the other thread too but after talking to S&W they told me a slightly different story (and sold me a proprietary M&P 10 full length buffer tube.)

I'd like to know if anyone actually bought the spacer from them yet. I was told it's not available yet.

Well I am certainly glad I did a bunch more digging...I could have done some real damage...

...DISCLAIMER...
I am NOT an AR mechanic, this is my second AR patterned rifle.

the confusion was all about extensions, I saw extensions to mount at the tail of a rifle buffer to allow the mounting of the longer A2 on an A1 tube. Or an extension to lengthen a collapsible.

None of this made any sense to me because the Rock River stock comes with its own tube...it is what it is.

Apparently the buffer is supposed to contact the bottom of the tube after the BCG clears the bolt catch....but before the BCG can contact the lower receiver..

first photo is original 6 *** stock, buffer in place, no spring, BCG all the way back till buffer rests at the end of the tube.

Second photo is the same setup, but with the rifle tube and buffer in place:

in this 2nd picture the BCG is against the receiver and the buffer is NOT bottomed out.
Turns out that the "Spacer" I need is to make the tube shorter internally.
I found that I needed about .40" of spacers down the tube before replacing the spring and buffer to get my clearance up.

Let me make sure I understand correctly.

You're saying that the spacer that is being discussed (from S&W) is needed to drop in the fixed stock tube to prevent the BCG from coming back too far and slamming into rear of the Lower?

S&W told me "months" before their spacer would be ready to ship. Your photos lead me to believe I could measure the difference from factory and try and find a comparable spacer that is available today.

I'm also wondering how the guy in the other thread successfully did this.
