5.56 ammo storage?

Here in the midwest, you can go to most gunshows and buy cans in great/new condition for .30 - $5 -$6 , .50 $8-$10., SAW cans $10. -&!2 and 20mm $15. -$20. The only problem with the 20mm cans is that when they are full ,they gain wt. the longer they set. I know this from experience as when I put them on the shelf it was not to bad , but now , a number of years later, I can hardly move them. The other thing to do is go together with friends and make a quantity buy. Most dealers will cut you a better price when you buy 20 to 40 cans at a time and you can always use them for other things besides ammo.

There is a Pelican case - I think it is the 1400 but not sure - that is perfectly sized for ten loaded thirty round USGI mags. It is plastic, but it is lockable, waterproof, and you could run over it with a truck. 300 rds. Kitted and ready to go. Get it while the mags are cheap.

Correcting my post, on checking it is the Pelican 1200 that exactly holds ten USGI mags.

Unless you are a power lifter, I suggest you NOT get the SAW can or 20 mm ammo cans. When you fill one of those up loaded ammo, it gets seriously heavy.

Empty, clean plastic milk jugs work great for brass storage in contolled environment. The jugs last about 8 months in a storage building without a/c. Then you have an opportunity to sort again. I did not think it was funny, but my wife sure did.
