BigBill,

Great minds must think alike !!

I'm leaning the same direction. Either a nice shooter N-Frame

or 1911 as i currently have neither.

I really like the looks of those model 520 or maybe a 4"

model 28-2. I don't want a gorgeous model 27 that i'll

be afraid to tote around. But if i find that screamer deal

i wouldn't pass one up either.

I don't really know which way i'd go if i decided on a 1911.

Colt, probably series 70. But there's a lot to choose from

out there in a 1911. My budget will be around 1 grand or

possibly a little more but not much. Got a buddy who has

a Kimber short officers type model, i'm not sure of what

model Kimber it is. But i've shot it and it felt good and shot

well for me for the 20 or so rounds i put thru it.

Any suggestions in this price range for a 1911 would be

appreciated. Tell me what you all like in a 1911 that's

not too expensive. It wouldn't be a carry gun, just for

maybe hunting Hogs, but primarily a bowling pin gun for

my buddies gravel pit range.

Chuck

For a nice 1911, you won't go wrong with a Colt Government Model, but you'll also find great value in the Ruger SR1911, Remington R1, Springfield Armory MilSpec, and Sig Sauer Nightmare. They're all within your budget and they're all great shooters. You should also look at the Metro Arms American Classic 1911 - well below your $1,000 budget, a finely made pistol with an unbelievably smooth spring. Good luck!

Why did the Japanese kamakazi pilots, during WWII, wear helmets?
Warmth, those WWII cockpits did not have pressurized life support systems.
Geoff
Who notes early jets had cut away diagrams that noted "cockpit air conditioning" some politician thought that was an expensive luxury option that was unnecessary...and the term "life support" became popular, especially when you could get to 50,000 feet in two minutes.

Obligatory firearms postie, an interesting combination would be a set of Browning 8/10s scale 1911s in .22LR and .380
Geoff
Who spends other folks money vicariously. It's cheaper that way.
If Browning put adjustable sights on those cute little things, I'd buy one.
BTW. Good morning, Drifters!
No snow.
No rain.
It's above freezing, but not 100.
It's Wednesday.
That's at least four reasons why I'm happier today than yesterday.

Resume Drift!

Good morning drift! Don't forget the lever gun bigride, they are good fun at the range and are better for deer hunting. I have a thing for big bore single actions as well and with practice and the right load .45 LC will stop a deer cold in its tracks.

I've not had any problems with it myself but red Meat, Beer,
and alcohol are some of my favorite things in life.:D:D

Chuck

When I moved from underground utilities to the wastewater plant (yeah, right... big step up) I interviewed with a couple old boys who asked if I minded working overtime.

I answered I was counting on it, that's what would keep me in alcohol and meat.

Nailed it.

Drift is good today.......so far!
Bigride, I wanted a 6 1/2" black hawk in .41 mag, ended up with a 4 5/8". I discovered how handy the 4 5/8" was and never regretted it. Go for the shorter if available, otherwise enjoy what you get! 😀

A mind is a terrible thing to lose ! Watched Westminister, enjoyed it, and then discovered I was watching 2015 rerun with the beagle BIS! A German shorthaired pointer won BIS in 2016!
Wonder if either has ever been in the field, seen/run a rabbit or a seen/pointed a bird ?

Good morning everyone! Looks like it could be a great day here for a change! Today is Wednesday, middle of the week, where does the time go?Having way to much fun? :D
A grand to spend on a new gun? I only wish! :D Nothing in my horizon right now? Too many guns and not enough money! :D
bigbill whatever you end up with enjoyyyyyy!;)

Regarding early jets!
I remember reading an article as a child, that the earlier jets were vibration free vs. propeller planes, and that the instruments of the time needed vibration to ensure accuracy and functioning so someone (British?) invented a panel vibrator to assist the instruments function.
BTW, with that invention, a new industry was born, and the rest is history !
Minituration (sp) was still in the future ! 😋
Stupid spellcheck! 😕

They write "LOL" and "OMG". Over and over. Endlessly. Whether it makes sense or not.

"ROTFLMAO" is too tough for them to handle often.
