BigBill,
Great minds must think alike !!
I'm leaning the same direction. Either a nice shooter N-Frame
or 1911 as i currently have neither.
I really like the looks of those model 520 or maybe a 4"
model 28-2. I don't want a gorgeous model 27 that i'll
be afraid to tote around. But if i find that screamer deal
i wouldn't pass one up either.
I don't really know which way i'd go if i decided on a 1911.
Colt, probably series 70. But there's a lot to choose from
out there in a 1911. My budget will be around 1 grand or
possibly a little more but not much. Got a buddy who has
a Kimber short officers type model, i'm not sure of what
model Kimber it is. But i've shot it and it felt good and shot
well for me for the 20 or so rounds i put thru it.
Any suggestions in this price range for a 1911 would be
appreciated. Tell me what you all like in a 1911 that's
not too expensive. It wouldn't be a carry gun, just for
maybe hunting Hogs, but primarily a bowling pin gun for
my buddies gravel pit range.

For a nice 1911, you won't go wrong with a Colt Government Model, but you'll also find great value in the Ruger SR1911, Remington R1, Springfield Armory MilSpec, and Sig Sauer Nightmare. They're all within your budget and they're all great shooters. You should also look at the Metro Arms American Classic 1911 - well below your $1,000 budget, a finely made pistol with an unbelievably smooth spring. Good luck!
