Annoyed at thread drift

Beautiful evening here, 71°, humidity 31%, light wind, a few clouds. Makes me feel blessed with the weather others have had or are having.
Just got back from voting in the Iowa primary. Only several categories had more than one candidate. Our sheriff is retiring, so three candidates running. Yesterday the chief deputy and his wife showed up at the front door. Young man, but with 18 years experience. Answered my questions well, and his wife added a few words which came across well. So with their personal touch we voted for him. The other multiple candidate for another office is endorsed by the NRA, and has stated very positive on firearms rights. The incumbent doesn't seem to want to answer the NRA poll, or answer questions about his position on Second Amendment issues, so guess who won our vote!
Anyhow The Highwayman are on IPTV, Long Island Nassau Coliseum 1990 concert, so a nice ending for the day. Unfortunately it is fund raising event so a fair amount of drivel or maybe dribble?
Sorry to hear of others medical issues, best of luck in resolution. Do what is best so your dog has you to fuss over for a long time!
Was at the gastroenteroligist today. He is retiring next week, so the next rotorooter job is to be done by a woman, whom I have not met! Maybe that is best for me! 3rd doctor of mine who has retired or left in the past 2 years! Not including the ones I dropped, mainly for not responding to issues or questions to my satisfaction! Maybe I am a horses patootie! Why change now, there is only one judgment a body has to worry about!

...Sometime later we learned that from June 3 - 7th the Japanese released Kikusui IX on the unsuspecting Americans at Okinawa. In this instance 50 kamikazes and far more than an equal number of bombers and fighters, were directed toward that island and the ships defending it. Their attacks packed little power but even so they hit J. William Ditter (DM 31) and Harry F. Bauer (DM 26). The first vessel was scrapped as a result of the damage. Causalities numbered 11 killed and 34 wounded.

USS J. William Ditter (DD-751/DM-31) was a Robert H. Smith-class destroyer minelayer in the United States Navy. She was named for Congressman J. William Ditter

While patrolling with USS Harry F. Bauer (DM-26) and USS Ellyson (DD-454) 6 June, J. William Ditter was attacked by a large group of kamikazes. The ship's gun crews downed five of the planes; but a sixth glanced off her No. 2 stack; and another crashed into her on the port side near the main deck. The ship lost all power and suffered many casualties; but damage control kept her afloat until she could be towed by tug USS Ute (AT-76) to Kerama Retto the next day. Eventually she was repaired enough to steam to Saipan on 10 July and begin the voyage home. J. William Ditter was decommissioned on 28 September 1945 and was scrapped in July 1946.

USS Harry F. Bauer (DD-738/DM-26/MMD-26) was a Robert H. Smith-class destroyer minelayer in the United States Navy. She was named for Lieutenant Commander Harry F. Bauer (1904–1942).

While in company with USS J. William Ditter (DM-31) 6 June, she was attacked by eight aircraft. Each ship accounted for three; one crashed close aboard Harry F. Bauer, flooding two compartments. Although damaged herself, the ship escorted the crippled J. William Ditter to Kerama Retto.

Seventeen days later, the BAUER steamed into Leyte for repairs. After plates were welded over the holes in the ship's side, repair crews drained the fuel tanks and made an unnerving discovery. Resting against the forward engine room bulkhead was a 555-pound bomb. Old Lucky was still true to her nickname. Authorities quickly ordered the BAUER moved to an anchorage away from other ships, and a bomb disposal expert went to work defusing the bomb. The crew then removed it from the fuel tank, cleaned it, and laid it out on the wardroom table. That was when they saw stenciled on the side of the bomb, "Made in Bayonne, New Jersey." Later, when Japanese and Americans compared notes on the war, the mystery was solved. In the 1930s, the U.S. sold Pearl Harbor's outdated coastal defense guns to the Japanese who also took the guns' shells, added fins, and turned them into bombs.

Just got home from my class,things are sure getting complicated these days! A/C is going to get much more expensive to repair and it is going to be a lot tougher to fix! Everything in your car or truck is becoming more and more computer dependent but not necessarily better. I just do not trust my life to any computer that could have a glitch just because you have dirty battery cables,etc. better stop the rant before I get dinged!

If that church was Berea First Baptist on Farrs Bridge Rd., we drive past it on the way to shoot clays in Pickens County.
I can't imagine the changes you notice, but my first visit was 1983, and it seems like a different town to me.

Same church, the land across the street from the church was my Grandfather's old home place years ago. My Grandmother was a Farr part of the family Farr's Bridge Rd. was named for. Most all the family that I knew is gone now but I still got the memories.

Good evening drifters it's down to 91 here in the desert tonight. We will be in the triple digits now for the rest of the summer with only a day now and then dropping into the 90's but that is summertime in the desert.

My prayers are sent out to all you folks that are having problems I guess it is something we old folks just have to look forward to. Doesn't make it good just something we have to live with.

Yes Sir! These are the "Golden Years" for sure. I always wondered what was meant by that statement, & I've come to realize it means that you become more of a source of gold to doctors & big pharma...

Good morning all. Yesterday while walking I thought I was late on my route. There was way too much light. Then I realized that the sun had been coming up earlier, but with all the rains we've had the cloud cover was keeping things dark well after 6:00 AM. A bit of sunshine yesterday has improved my mood. Sunrise today is at 6:21 so light should start about 5:50. Forecast... high of 91, partly cloudy, 20% chance of afternoon rain. We do not need the rain, but a 20% chance of rain is normal for Houston on most any day. Each of you have a great day!
