Pavarotti scoffed at the idea that he was the 'world's greatest tenor' but seeing this I scoff at his scoffing. I can't believe you got to see him SEVERAL times. I had only one opportunity and it probably would have been impossible to get tickets because it was a benefit concert for Dr. Sabin at the Medical University of Charleston.

I've always greatly preferred Placido Domingo, among the top tenors of Pavarotti's generation. Magnificent voice, one of the best since Bjoerling in my opinion, and the man could seriously act while making great music.

I think he's only conducting these days, and doing it very well from what little I've heard of his work.

I heard the Astrodome in Houston, once called the "Eighth Wonder of the World" now sits empty, or they may have torn it down by now.

If not I would suggest filling it up with cows, feeding them on corn and sorghum and using the dome to collect the methane gas that is produced naturally. Now how green is that idea? I suspect this would produce as much energy as some oil wells today. Soon the federal government can underwrite and fund these domes all over the country and we will be energy sufficient at last.

Free at last!

The only down side is it does not produce enough carbon units to help prevent global cooling.

In furtherance of your proposal:

Ya can't make this stuff up:

"As part of its plan to reduce U.S. greenhouse gas emissions, the Obama administration is targeting the dairy industry to reduce methane emissions in their operations.

This comes despite falling methane emission levels across the economy since 1990.

The White House has proposed cutting methane emissions from the dairy industry by 25 percent by 2020. Although U.S. agriculture only accounts for about 9 percent of the country's greenhouse gas emissions, according to the Environmental Protection Agency, it makes up a sizeable portion of methane emissions — which is a very potent greenhouse gas.

Some of these methane emissions come from cow flatulence, exhaling and belching — other livestock animals release methane as well."

There's a joke between my wife and I.....

It was broadcast over 4 nights. I was really tired that week.

The concert was in the middle of the work week during Spoleto and my wife was really tired. We still wonder how anybody could fall asleep during a Mussorgsky concert.

It reminds me of the Dick Van Dyke show when somebody's excuse for missing something was that they were sleeping while watching "The Guns of Navarone" and everybody incredulously said, "YOU SLEPT THROUGH :THE GUNS OF NARVARONE?!".

PS One place I could sleep during the "Ring Cycle" is when the music that represents going underground to Neibelung land goes:

da da dadada da, da da dadada da, da da dadada da ....

For about 15 minutes.
