Sunday Mother's Day our Daughter took the family (14) for Mom's favorite food (Tia). We were seated, drinks ordered, and food orders given. Jimmy is not a fan of this food so I ordered fried rice with beef which is as simple as the menu allows. Everyone's salad, soap came and then the main course came, Jimmy is waiting while everyone else is eating. Finally some one advised the waiter that my food had not came. After 40 minutes my order came and was wrong. By now everyone was though eating and I was still waiting. After all most an hour my fried rice with beef came. Now folk this restaurant was not crowded or busy. I ate while everyone made polite conversation. I insisted that we tip 20% as I felt that the problem was not the server but the kitchen.

Although the server is the one who should have been heard yelling in the kitchen and the manager should have been the one who came to your table and said that the price of your meal would be removed from the bill. But, I admit I have never worked in that industry so perhaps I don't know how it works.

Frau wanted to go to that Lobster place for Mom's day. Got there a couple minutes after 2PM, it was crowded, put in our name, was handed a beeper and was told there was about 1 hour wait, no problem. Let me state the prices and the menu both go up at 3PM, but we like the smaller portions, . Things progressed VERY slowly, wait time is now up to 1 hour 45 minute we heard and after about 55 minute wait I curiously asked the hostess if they were going to honor the lunch menu and prices since we were there in plenty of time and we waited? Oh no, she says, the computer automatically switches over at 3PM and there is nothing they can or are willing to do about it, period. I handed back the beeper and stated they should make an exception on very busy days like Mothers Day and that their management skills sucked and left. Went across the road to an excellent Mexican restaurant and got outstanding margaritas and a delicious enchilada platter served in 22 minutes. Won't be eating any seafood out for a while.

Been to places like the op, never went back to them. As far as having Mex, sounds great to me.

As soon as the server saw there was an order missing from the table the server should have found out why. Whatever the problem the server was responsible to see the meal was served in a timely manner.

Should have - and maybe she did. But I have seen where the cook has it in for one waitress and will deliberately screw with her orders. Who can say what went on. :(

I hate when that happens. In a gourmet Mexican food place one time my family (9) were seated and orders placed. Everyone's order arrived but mine. The server said she'd have it right out. I don't remember by now just how long it was before it came. But some of our party had already had to leave. When my order came I asked the server why it had take so long. She looked me straight in the eye and told me with a straight face that it took a long time to cook that particular dish.

I returned her gaze and informed her that it was shrimp and shrimp cooks in about 4 minutes. She blushed and walked away. The manager greeted us at the door as we paid and started to leave. He wanted to know if everything had been alright.

I told him what had happened and he apologized profusely. He asked me if we could get past it and come back again sometime. I told him that I'd wait until the lying waitress had moved on and give it another try.

We never went back.

Another time while I was an operator at a major oil refinery I was a member of the fire crew. Every year we went to a fire fighting school and Texas A&M in College Station. On this occasion the first night after washing all the soot and smoke off we all went to a neighborhood restaurant. There were 12 of us and we took up 3 tables.

Everyone's order came but mine. Now this is a place that was almost a perfectly square room. You can see every part of the room including the little window at the kitchen where the servers pick up their orders, from any spot in the room.

After the others had been served about 15 or 20 minutes earlier and I had SEEN the meal I ordered hit the window and be served to others I called the waiter over and asked him what the deal was. He told me he get it right out. I don't know how many of my order hit the window and were served to people that had not been there 5 minutes. The waiter and the cook could see I was getting hot.

Every one in my party finally left. I was determined to wait it out and see if they would ever bring my order. I had decided to wait for as long as it took or until they closed.

I sat there stewing in my own juices until he finally brought it over. By now I was the only customer in the place. I was blind with rage. He set the plate down and turned to walk away. I stood up picked up the plate and turned it upside down and slammed it down on the table so hard that food went everywhere and the plate shattered into a million pieces. I threw a $20 on the table and took a couple of steps toward the door. The waiter said "HEY!" I turned to face him and he took a couple of steps toward me. I set my feet and said "come and get it...". The cook was coming around the kitchen door. I caught his eye and said "you too". The waiter stopped and stood there for a second or two deciding what to do. He finally turned and got in front of the cook and pushed him back into they kitchen.

I'm not, by nature, a confrontational person but I was genuinely disappointed when they back down. My rage was complete. I went to a bar down the street and "got well" Slept like a baby and put it all be hind me.

I hate bad service.....and rude behavior. ;)

The server never came back to say, "is everything ok?"

It's the servers fault, the server should have recognized someone at the table didn't have anything to eat when the others were served.

Rice and beef in a place like that should take 5 minutes.

I would still leave something but not 20% and I always tip 20% Maybe 10% and tell them why.

Back in the late '80s, I was facility security officer for a classified NASA contractor. I'd always work late the night or two before our scheduled inspections by the Defense Investigative Service, which we always passed. I'd take off early after the inspections.

After one inspection, I took off and went for lunch at a restaurant in Berea, which I enjoyed. If anyone knows the area, the restaurant was across the parking lot from the library.

I walked in the front door and didn't see anyone. It was early, but according to the chalk board in the waiting area, they were open. Finally a waitress approached me and told me that they weren't open yet. I replied that according to THEIR sign, they were. She looked at the sign, did a double-take and said, "Oh, I guess we are."

She led me into the dining room. I ordered prime rib and a glass of rose. There followed a farce worthy of Larry, Daryl and Daryl at the Minute Man Cafe.

Meals were always served with warm bread. This time it was stone cold. What ensued was a continual round robin of random waiters and waitresses bringing substandard fare.

One of the random servers placed a glass of something red on the table and scurried away. I looked at it and immediately knew it wasn't rose. Tasting it, I was reminded of Robitussin. Managing to snag one of the waitresses, I asked her what the drink ACTUALLY was. She said "Rose". I begged to differ. She asked if I'd like her to check, to which I replied, "That would be a good idea." Scurrying off, she was replaced by others in the endless conga line of servers. I was brought cold, tough "prime" rib. Finally returning, the waitress told me that it was SANGRIA, because "that was the only red wine they had". Apparently, if they'd run out of beef, they would have felt entitled to bring me road kill beagle if "that was the only mammalian quadruped they had".

The meal was an utter disaster. I was torn. If I left NO tip, they might think that I NEVER tipped. However I certainly wasn't going to leave a REAL tip for not just bad food (and wine), but bad (and deceptive) service. I finally settled on something in the vicinity of $0.07.

After paying the bill, I walked out, never to return. Shortly thereafter the place closed, to be transformed into the dining facility of a nursing home which remains there to this day.

Another time, after returning from the rifle range, a friend and I decided to try an Italian place in North Olmsted, near the mall. I forget what my friend ordered. I ordered lasagna.

If you were going to cheap out on lasagna, where would you cut corners? Meat, right? Wrong. There was almost no PASTA. It was in essence "lasagna SOUP". They COMPLETELY screwed up my friend's order to the point where they took SOME of the bill off. I was too disgusted to even complain. My friend left about a $0.07 tip and stormed out. I left a similar "tip". The last thing I recall seeing as I drove away was the waiter throwing the change into the street.

I have many experiences to bore you with. I chalk up not being served to my fictional invisible suit.

Small thing yesterday..Trip to Cracker Barrel for mothers day breakfast. At the end of the meal the waitress addresses the wife (not me) asking if there was anything else. The wife replied that all was fine & gave the wife the check. On mothers day???
Impossible to mix us up.
Our Cracker Barrel has a nationwide reputation for poor service A famous african-american comedian's family was ignored after being taken to a table. They claimed discrimination. Everybody in the neighborhood felt that they were treated the same as everyone else... Poorly. Usually this fine establishment is OK but don't be surprised.......

You did it right but................

if they don't have a burger on the side................
I would be looking for another place.

It does not take but nine minutes to wok beef and set it next to some rice !!
That manager is a jerk !!

My worst ever dining experience was at a local Black Eyed Pea. I know the one here closed shortly after, and I don't know whether the chain still exists. We were seated quickly, but we waited nearly 15 minutes before a server approached our table. The place was not busy. We watched as our food sat on the shelf for about another fifteen minutes before the server finally appeared and brought it to the table. The wife didn't want to leave, so we ate our now cold food. It would have been okay if it had been still warm. After we had finished we had to wait for another 20 minutes for the server to appear with the tab. Then she took my card and disappeared for about 10 minutes. I wound up leaving her a tip against my wife's advice. I gave her two pennies. That was generous. We never went back, and the place closed down soon after.

There was one other time that was so bad it was funny. Some coworkers and I were working in a small town in the Texas panhandle. We decided to go for Mexican food. We went to the only Mexican place in town. A sign inside the door read Please Be Seated, so we did. We sat and waited and waited and waited. There was only one other occupied table in the place. About thirty minutes later we realized that one guy was running the entire shop by himself. Evidently he was going to finish cooking the food for the other table before he even greeted us. We could see him through the pass through into the kitchen cooking furiously. He could obviously see us as well, but no effort was made to greet us. We finally gave up and went elsewhere. It was good for laughs, anyway.

Anytime We go out to eat with My Sister in Law is a bad time.
She insists that We go where She wants to go and I'm the only one that has the guts to say lets go somewhere else but I am always over ruled by the rest.
The last time was in Charleston S.Carolina where She drug Us to some Hippie Health Food so called Restaurant that had nothing My Wife or I would call Food.We waited for twenty minutes to be waited on and then it took almost a hour for Our Food to be served and They got Mine and My Brother in Law's orders wrong.
Then They had the nerve to add a Tip on the Bill and that's when the fight started,I removed the Tip and My Sister in Law went Ballistic about how rude that is and that I should include a Tip,I told Her that if She insists on giving a Tip for that rotten service and Rabbit Food that She would have to pay the Bill.
Needles to say We don't go out to eat much when we go there these days.

My wife and I once had a serial bad service experience. This was back in the '90s when there was full employment, and many businesses had a hard time finding even warm bodies. After a day of shopping, we were famished. We went to Restaurant #1 (I've forgotten the name) where we'd had good meals previously. We were promptly seated. After 15 minutes, no waiter had appeared, so we left. We went to Restaurant #2 (I've also forgotten its name) next door. We stood at the entrance to the dining area for nearly 10 minutes. Even though there were a few customers at tables, at no time did we see any restaurant employee, so we left. We drove a half-mile to Restaurant #3, an Olive Garden. We were promptly seated, and it was filled with both customers and employees, a good sign! We did notice, however, that all of the employees were teenagers. We waited another 15 minutes, and once again, no waiter had appeared, so we left. By now we were both famished and annoyed. Then I remembered that there was an On The Border about a mile away. I'd never eaten there, but I had interviewed the manager a few months earlier as part of a consulting project, and she seemed to have a lot on the ball. Her managerial competency came through the moment we walked in the door. The place was run like a well-oiled machine, and within ten minutes were were ravenously consuming mass quantities of delicious Tex-Mex food.

Not surprisingly, Restaurants #1 and #2 are long gone. The Olive Garden is still there, but we've never gone back. Still our restaurant of choice when we're in the area, On The Border.

We lived in Yuba City for a while (Farming community founded by Sutter, about 45 miles North of Sacramento). We found a nice place to eat way out on a crossroads, out among the levees and orchards. Had good "farm fare"=steaks, chicken fried steak, fried chicken, etc.

Went one night. They were busy=="bustling" is a better description. We had a drink or two and received our salads (after asking the waitress twice and waiting about 35 minutes). We noticed SEVERAL (6-8) groups come in after us, then eat and leave, in particular one large group of about 10-12. After 55 minutes, still no food. Can't get the waitress. Corner another waitress (now about 1 1/4-1 1/2 hours since arrival) and tell her we'd like our check. She gets the manager, who says no problem, but gives a lackadaisical apology. Waitress shows up WITH A CHECK for 4 drinks and two salads! I left just enough to cover the check and wrote a note "Take your tip out of the bar tab!"

On the other hand, we found a diner out on another farm road. Real country diner=served only breakfast and lunch. Great food and they served ............FRY BREAD! Ran by a couple of local Native Americans. I have a Cherokee/Chickasaw heritage, so we got along great (I also worked with several Tribes solving environmental issues). Well, after a couple of years (we went about once a month 'cuz it was about 30 miles away), they told us they were closing up because the landlord was increasing their lease. They were having a "Customer Appreciation Day" (invitation only) for some of their clients before they closed up shop.
Well, we headed on over and the wife called my wife into the kitchen. After a while my wife comes out with a big order of fry bread==the owner had taken her back to teach her how to make fry bread!

I'm the same way here. I rarely lose my temper at all let alone in public but almost did today due to an arrogant person. I was riding the bus to parkdale Plaza to go have lunch and chime in here. I moved out of the way for a handicapped gent in a wheelchair. A jerk near me rudely said ''get you *** out of my face'' seeing I couldn't move an inch till the guy in wheelchair moved. I was at least two feet away from the arrogant jerk, so my backside wasn't in anyone's face. I told him he knew I couldn't move till the chair passed by, and said if he had a problem with that? to step off the bus at my stop, and we'd take it from there. Well, I got off and waited noticing big mouth stayed on.
