I'm gonna buy an ipod. I've got some MP3 tunes already on a CD. Is it possible to transer those to the ipod without going through itunes? If yes or no can someone explain the process either with or without itunes in lay terms to a non-computer illiterate?

You need iTunes. Go to the apple store, download (it's free) the current version of iTunes and read the user guide. It'll fix you right up.

then, after you're totally frustrated, go find a kid who can explain it. I'll loan you my 10 year old. He has it down pat. Sheesh...

I bought an iPod about 6 months ago and enjoy the heck out of it. Going through iTunes doesn't cost unless you buy then it's $.99 I think. I bought myself the gift card for buying songs so I don't have to use my credit card to buy. I think the gift cards come in all denominations.

I have 2 iPods, the latest is the tiny Shuffle model.
You have to use iTunes in order to convert the CD into the file format used by the iPod.
It's free to use for that purpose, but they really hope you'll download some music so they can get your $$$.

Once the MP3 files are on your computer, just "locate them on your hardfile" in iTunes.. and they'll be ready to load on your iPod. The instructions to do this are very straight forward and it's very quick.

I love my IPod, and ITunes too.

I grew up making "mix" tapes from my records to cassette tape. It was easier when Multiple CD players came along. Itunes' "playlist" capability is the bee's knees. You can drag and order any song in as many playlists as you want to create.

I have the equavilant of over 200 CD's on my 30 GB IPOD and still have LOTS of room left.

As for ITunes, how many times have you bought a CD for "that ONE SONG"? With Itunes you can buy "that ONE SONG", and not the whole CD. Usually for 99¢.

You won't regret it.

Want to save money on your purchase? Buy a refurbished iPod from apple. I have purchased 2 in the past, many times all they are is returns which people have bought and don't know how to use, also you will get the same warranty from apple as comes with a new one.

I have also purchased, wireless keyboards, mouse and last was a 20 cinema display saving $100.00 on the deal. Check it out.

Almost forgot, look to the left under Refurbished iPods for all the different models. I have a Nano, small and perfect for me.

Also if you have a old boombox with input and output connections, you can buy a RCA jack connect to your iPod and listen through the boombox. They are a great little device.

I have the 4th gen ipod nano, 16 gig. Its really nice and holds ALOT of stuff, pics, movies, and of course, music!

After having my car broken into and losing 15 cd's I bought an iPod. I can carry all my music and take it with me when I leave the car. VERY easy.

Better than an Ipod-get an Iphone-the office replaced my old cell phone with an I phone so I could get my e mail and keep in better contact with my clients-I found out about the Ipod in it quite by accident. I gotta thank the guy who runs my office

I have an Ipod, bought just to download some of the music we have on hand, that's all. I have 6000 + songs on it. -- Just don't need anything else.

Buying your first iPod is similar to buying your first Smith.

I like my iPod, my youngest would probably give up her home before her iPod.
One question for Itunes users. I have found that once you buy a song, that you can play it all you want, put it on your iPod, but cannot write it onto a CD. Is it just me, or is there a way to put all those songs I supposedly bought and now own, onto a CD for my personal use?

Yup. Put the cuts you want in a playlist, then burn the playlist to a CD. You can get up to about 70 minutes on one CD.

If you have time go to the Apple Support site, and get instructions on anything you may want to do, example creating a Playlist which will enable you to burn your own personal CD (providing you have a CD burner in your machine)
