Florida Open Carry

As for speaking Spanish it has become noticeably way more prevalent in the last two years and I'm about 40 miles north of Miami in Broward county which is almost as bad as Dade.

My girlfriend back in the 80's was from Honduras and she liked to go down to Miami occasionally with her Hispanic gfs to the events like Calle Ocho etc.
Of course I'd be driving them and would leave my daily carry Walther PPK at home opting instead for my "Mi-jami" gun, a SW Model 59 loaded with 14 Winchester silver tip +P's with a spare magazine in my back pocket.... but that was during the cocaine cowboy years when murder was off the charts and cellphones didn't exist.

As for the rental tag sticker while I haven't noticed that yet I'm sure the criminals have,
Btw the other dead giveaway that you probably aren't a local is not having dark tinted windows...

I've not read all this thread.

What advantage is there to open carry?

How would it benefit someone in everyday life?

I do understand open carry in a farming or hunting situation, but not in a town or city setting.

Not trying to stir the pot, I could never think of a reason to open carry.

We had a natural disaster (storm and excessive flooding) near here a few years back. Emergency management and first responders were overwhelmed for a few weeks. Roads and bridges were washed away. Interstate 75 was completely closed to public traffic due to bridge damage.

Looters started hitting the upscale neighborhoods. One lakeside subdivision was hit multiple times by thugs. Everyone was trapped in their home. Gun owners had to do their own safety patrols to protect their homes/property and neighborhoods.

This is just one example/reason where open carry should not be infringed.

I'm not stirring the pot. I don't recommend open carry, but it shouldn't be illegal.

Before CCL became more common over the last 20 years, if you wanted to carry legally but didn't qualify for a CCL (or if they didn't exist), open carry, where legal, was your only option. Those days are gone.

The exercise of one's civil rights is not contingent on proof of need and requires no justification.

Your example isn't about "open carry", it's about the "Castle Doctrine" and the right to possess a firearm in your house for home defense. The two, while both might be considered covered under the broad umbrella of the 2nd Amendment, are not the same.

What say you all about this? 17-year-old steals gun from man at Dunkin', shoots him to death in parking lot, police say – WSB-TV Channel 2 - Atlanta I think this guys gun was supposed to be concealed. Unlucky or Not to Smart?

I would just like to say that the 17-year-old in that story would never, under any circumstances, get within 25 feet of me without having my discreet but undivided attention, whether I was carrying openly, concealed, or not at all. Paying attention to his surroundings and knowing his own limitations might have saved that Dunkin Donuts customer. Open carry is not a binary all-or-nothing decision; you CAN adapt your carry choice to the situation. I have plenty of discreet carry options for occasions when I am forced to go places where characters lurk like the one in your news clip. Or for times when it would be socially awkward to let others know I'm armed. Meanwhile, I carry a .357 revolver openly almost daily on my cattle ranch. I'm pretty sure I could run to the feed store in town or buy diesel for my tractor with just about zero risk of some meth-head or gangbanger trying to rush me and steal my weapon. But because the law says I must, I untuck my shirt and make sure it covers the whole gun and holster. Don't care at all that it prints (Python and 2x speed loaders on the belt under a t-shirt, not too hard to spot), because I'm not really trying to conceal my weapon, just complying with a useless law.

Again....Open carry is not on the table in Florida...it's constitutional concealed carry without going through the permit process but you must carry a valid ID so if stopped they can verify you are not a prohibited person like a felon or non citizen etc.

I've had my Fl CCW since they created it in 1987, the advantages of keeping your permit are no waiting period when purchasing a firearm and reciprocity with some other states when traveling.
Apparently it will cover out of state legal US citizens as well as long as they carry valid ID.

IT DOES NOT ALLOW OPEN CARRY!

Oklahoma has had Open Carry for two or three years and I have seen one person carrying. The Open Carry bunch that were trying to get it legalized hurt the publics attitude toward guns by parading around and going into eating places and stores with AR-15's waving around and slung on their shoulders.
I would Open Carry while in the outdoors but the rest if the time it is concealed and let it br a surprise.

Too late, the OC debate will go on until the thread gets closed. Then there will be another thread and another and another and….

Prior to covid I was a frequent visitor to Broward and Dade county going back to the 80s. My solution for being targeted was either borrowing a car from FL friends I was visiting or get a large heavy V8 gas guzzler (Lincoln/Buick/Olds/Cadillac) from RentAWreck. Wasn't fluent in Spanish but most folks spoke both English and Spanish. The only robbery or carjacking attempts I encountered was in my northeast home city. Suffice to say Detroit steel and S&W saved me from being a victim.
