Florida Open Carry

It is my absolute right under the 1st Amendment to walk up to Mike Tyson and tell him his tattoos are ugly and his breath smells like ears.

Prudence tells me today is not the day to exercise that right.

Absolutely! Common sense says although you have the Right to walk in certain places and say whats on your mind to certain people, your survival instinct kicks in, and you don't.

No one seems to pick up on the undeniable fact that in the same decade that carry laws, CC and other, allow more folks to carry, firearm homicides have gone up (both raw numbers and rates), not down. Not saying one causes the, just reading the numbers.

Just read the Breitbart article,
The main part is this:

GOA’s Luis Valdes asked DeSantis if he would support open carry being added to the constitutional carry legislation, the Tampa Bay Times reported.

DeSantis responded, “Yeah, absolutely.”

He added, “I don’t think they’re going to do it, but I would absolutely.”

It's still not part of the bill and sounds like it won't be.

It's also the same time period where the cities with the most homicides stopped prosecuting people for lesser, but still serious crimes. The same decade where judges stopped sending those same "low level" criminals to prison in the name of "equity" and to fight "disparate" sentencing.

Not saying one causes the other, just reading the numbers.

Correlation does not equal causation.

The population has also increased substantially in the past 10 years. Have homicides increased substantially among licensed or lawful carriers?

Some on here, those who don’t live in FL, may not realize that there are two “Florida’s” - Old Florida and New Florida.
Old Florida is rural: farmland and cattle ranches, orange groves and cane sugar fields. Towns and small cities like KeyStone Heights , Hastings, Green Cove Springs, Hawthorn, Mt. Dora. Rural and conservative.
Then there is New Florida: Orlando, Miami/Dade, Tampa, Tallahassee, Disney World, most of south Florida. Urban, progressive and tourist destinations. There are 67 countries in Florida, six of which encompass the largest population concentration, which is slightly less then the remaining 61 countries. Those six countries are the “New Florida”. I’m surprised we still have a Republican legislature. Without a “supermajority “ of the states population supporting it, open carry will not happen here. Odds on Constitutional carry are 50/50. My opinion only, for what it’s worth, which isn’t much……..

That's not my point. Firearms homicides, by rate per 100,000 population and volume, have increased contemporaneously with increased ability of Joe & Jane Average to carry (especially true for concealed carry). Just fact.

Homicide is neither increased nor decreased by a single factor. Human behavior is complex.

As we have seen in the high profile trial in SC there will be the occasional domestic Joe & Jane homicides with firearms. That aside the bulk of the homicides with firearms I saw in 39 years were drug and gang related. Basically a repeat of the Prohibition era with drugs.

My family moved here a bit over 200 years ago. The changes that I have seen in my lifetimes are enough to make my family wonder if this is still home? To many folks from up north trying to turn it into where they came from. Also to many from other countries to the south trying to do the same. My Mother wanted to ship everyone back to where they came from.

I am sure that Native Americans felt the same way 200 years ago when your family arrived

Most of the homicides I dealt with were gang related. Most of those involved firearms, but a few involved knives.

One was a guy who strangled his girlfriend with her own nylon stocking. Which my partner and I discovered when we examined her before the police arrived. It got a bit sporty when he tried to kick us out of the building.

Another domestic homicide was a police officer who was shot by his girlfriend. She used his service weapon for that.

Most homicides I've dealt with were husband/wife, boyfriend/girlfriend, boyfriend/boyfriend, gang- or drug-related. Or just people who know each other too well feuding.

Is there a forum rule saying how many Open Carry threads can run at one time?

Personally I don't think it's a good idea for "me" to open carry but your mileage may vary.

Usually when I see someone open carrying, I find myself gawking at their firearm just to be sure I haven't fallen out of fashion. :o

Ya gotta love our God given 2A right!

USA! :D

My take:
I have no idea what percentage of the population has no problem with the carrying of guns. They’re not the vocal/media covered crowd.
The vocal anti-gun/uneducated gun crowd are the ones getting the press. So to appease the anti’s and educate the uneducated, to me we should approach this carefully, ie:Keep the guns concealed. Obviously, occasionally your EDC may be noticed.
But let the uneducated see those of us law abiding CCW holders are no threat. The anti’s are never going to be convinced so that’s a moot point.
Maine, where I live, has had permitted/Constitutional carry for years with only one non-violent issue.
Over time most sane folks will see, carrying a gun is no more dangerous to the public than carrying a pocket knife.
AGAIN MY TAKE ONLY.
Your mileage may vary.
