just got my mp 15-22...I have to wait till Friday to shoot it though. I skimmed that some post that some ammos are more prone to jam.

just trying to get some opinions on what ammo is more prone to jam and what more apt to be trouble free.

is anything they sell at walmart trouble free?

1500+ rounds of bulk Winchester "333" thru mine trouble free.

Try a couple different bulk boxes. I've shot a bunch of Federal bulk as well.

Yea, Fed Bulk, runs about $18/box of 550 at my local walmart. (there is a thread on here about local pricing too.) IMO don't expect more than about 1inch groups at 25 yards with this ammo. There is some ammo that is more consistant.

I buy whatever bulk is on sale because my 15-22 digests it all with no problem. Some say Remington is bad news, but I've had very good results with it. Like Chuck said, try different brands and find out what you and your rifle prefer..

I've only used the Federal bulk through my 15/22. for about $18 at walmart it's hard to beat the price. I've got at least a few thousand rounds without a single issue (knock on wood).

Use either Federal bulk or CCI minimags for the initial "break in", then perhaps try other stuff.

I have used Federal hp 550 bulk from Wallyworld,Winchester hp 333, Winchester hp X,Winchester Western hp, Winchester X rn high velocity, CCi hp, CCi rn, my gun seems to like it all with no problems, maybe 5-10 FTF's out of about 2000 rnds, bad bullets I suspect. :D

Here is a list straight from the manual:

Aprroved 15-22 ammo

Aguila Super Extra High Velocity
Aguila Super Extra Std. Velocity
CCI Standard Velocity
CCI Mini-Mag
CCI Stinger
Federal American Eagle
Federal GameShock
Winchester Super-X High Velocity

Not Recommended 15-22 ammo

Remington Golden Bullet
Remington Target 22
Remington Thunderbolt
Winchester Wildcat
any and all subsonic ammo

Other ammo that owners have used with moderate to high success:

CCI Blazer 40gr LRN Rimfire #CC10021
Federal Champion 36gr HP Rimfire #545 (also known as #745 on Federal's website)
Winchester "333" 36gr HP Rimfire #22LR333HP

I've had no problems with Federal bulk or Winchester 333. I stay away from Remington Golden from past experiences with other semi's.

I've put hundreds of round of both CCI and Federal bulk pack through my 15-22 without any problems. Have shot limited amounts of Winchester with no issues too.

Is subsonic below 1100 ft per second? The list says any and all subsonic ammo yet they recommend CCI standard which is rated at 1070 fps making it subsonic if this is true.

The speed of sound is usually measured in dry air at about 68 degrees Fahrenheit at 1125 feet per second. That's about 767 miles per hours. The number increases w/ increase in temperature.

It has been my experience that a lot of ammo manufacturers are really optimistic about their published speeds especially in .22 ammo.

I think they are talking about ammo labeled as "subsonic" - which are usually < 900 FPS.

I have ran a mag or so of Winchester Subsonic through mine and it cycled fine.

What I've been doing is I took the lowest speed ammo on the list, which just happens to be the CCI Standard Velocity, and I make sure not to go below it. Remember, it's generally accepted that subsonic rounds have a muzzle velocity of 330 meters (1080 ft) per second or less. So I figure that as long as you use this as a guideline, and avoid any ammo specifically marked subsonic, that you should probably be okay.

Now, granted, some have already noted that they've used subsonic ammo in their rifles without an issue but my take is that unless you are using a suppressor why risk it? Oh, and before I forget I stumbled across this site that I also thought would be helpful:

DTU Series with flash hider

Mine does not do well with the Federal Bulk from Walmart but it shoots with real good with the Federal Auto Match and Federal Lightnings in my area they are $1.47 plus tax for 50 rounds I have Winchester 333 but I have not tried them. Mine has also been back to S&W for the updates might help someone else who has troubles.

DUL Series

Unlike most, mine does not like Federal 750 bulk.
Many FTE.
I use Blazer bulk in mine.

CCI Stingers

I shot them for the first time today have not seen nickle plated 22 lr before. I like this stuff I have never saw mine eject cases with such force has with this ammo 12 ft at 2 o clock in a pile. I am planning going to a Appleseed match this is going to be my new load for that trip if I can get enough of it.

Our 2nd 15-22 (lets not talk abut the first), we "broke in" with 500 CII Mini Mags (we always try them first), and nothing but Federal Bulk Pack (blue boxes from Cabela's), and Federal Automatch (Only 2 mags to test). We are more than 1000 rounds with this one without a single miss-feed or issue.
I think handing and storage of bullets is way under mentioned. We in desperation bought 3 Red boxes of Federal Bulk pack at a gun show (last last year) for far too much money (we wanted to shoot that afternoon). Guy probably bought them at 4 years ago, and they been bouncing around in the back of his truck since:-) Many failure to fire, jams in all but our bolt action guns, ... Comparing them to the new Blue Box Federal, I see no difference at all. But the new fresh Blue Box ones work in all of our guns (all 9 .22 LR, well except the Mosquito that prefers the Automatch).
So, I try to buy in bulk fresh, and then properly store.

i have tried federal american eagle ae22, some winchester and i have had fte and ftf from them all. mine seem's picky about those, but i have about 2000 rd's of federal 550 bulk from walmart that i have gone through without a problem. i also have 2000 rd's of cci that i haven't tried yet, but for now i'm having fun and no problem's with the federal bulk.
