I finally gave in and got a new puppy.

I will advise you to savor each and every puppy moment, even any "mistakes". And I'm guessing that right now, you can still catch her if she's running. But it won't be long before she'll be able to leave you in the dust, gasping for breath with your tongue hanging out.

On November 7, 2010, my dog Beau was seven-weeks-old and enjoying his first full day in his brand new home. Now it's November of 2016, and he's six-years-old. It seems like just last week that I was taking him for his first puppy physical exam! How could this have happened?

Getting older doesn't take as long as it should.

Got my Rott from the pound. She was about 2yrs. old at the time. Great yrs with her, she lived until she was 11. What a great breed! Damm, I miss that dog.

Mule Packer,

Congratulations on the new pup! Two days after I put down my Black Lab, I was on the computer looking for someone to fill her paws. I ended up with two Chocolates, who are marvelous, that was almost 5 years ago. On thanksgiving, we took in an abandoned coonhound pup, I figure to be 2 months old. The Labs (Folly and Hershey) are getting along well with the coonhound (Gretl). I will work on a four legged family picture.

Mule Packer, you will not regret getting a pup to help fill the paw prints of your departed baby.

You were just goin'for a pile'o'likes' with that pic weren't you?
Guess what? It worked! Beautiful pup you have. Slather him with the same love you gave your other one and you'll both have a great life together!
Happy trails
BTW, they usually do pick us don't they?

Boy.... ain't we a bunch of battle hardened, grizzled old gunmen. Show us a picture of a puppy or a kitten, and we fold up like a wet towel.

Here's Sylvester, he's about 12, we were worried all of our old guys (He is one of four grumpy old neutered Tom cats who have adopted us) would go at once...

So I brought home our newest, now a couple of months old, I guess... Bella....

Now, our dog, Erma thinks she needs an assistant...

Congratulations on your new little friend. As you know, we recently lost our two collies in a span of nine days. I suspect we will be looking for a new buddy here shortly.

As many of you know, our little 14-year old border collie, Patsy, passed away three months ago. She went with me and the pack string on every pack trip since she was six months old.

After she died, I honestly never thought I'd get another dog, but my wife, our kids, and many of you fine folks here on the Forum gave me good advice...and that was to eventually open my heart up to another canine companion.

I looked at a few puppies during the last couple of months, but nothing clicked. I kept saying to myself that there was just not another dog out there for me.

Well, I was wrong. Saw a litter of border collie puppies a little while ago. I don't think I really picked any one of them...but this one picked me. She was still too young to leave Mama at the time, but we were able to pick her up today.

I think we're going to call her "Suzy," but we'll see how it goes for the next few days.

Thanks, folks, for your counsel and advice. I think this just might work out.:)

Glad you found a new buddy, (or she found you). I lost my Old English Sheepdog to cancer in May, the wife and I haven't decided which breed to get, we have had Old English for 22 years (2 dogs), while I love the breed, I think I'm running out of energy to take care of a 140 lb hairball :D, looking at other breeds but I think we're going to wait until I'm off chemotherapy in March. Maybe a standard Schnauzer.
