My 6" M686 no dash. But I sure would miss my 3" M60 magnum.
Only one gun ya say...
It'd have to do it all, so for that I'd choose this one.
3" 629-2 custom.
I can load it up or down and it's accurate out to 100 yards if I do my part.
Good for social situations, woods duty, concealment, just about anything.
Excellent decision. My 3" 69-2 would have been my next choice after the commander

I guess if I'm still kickin' when we get to that point it would probably be the M66 2 1/2 in. 357 mag.

Gotta agree on the M27's as they are favorites no doubt and the 5" is a nice one. . Here's a few pictures of a pre-model 27 I've had for awhile now. . It's serial number S 990xx and came to me with the factory magnas numbered to the gun. . I like it so much I slipped on a pair of Cokes.

If it's only able to own one, it would be my 3" 65. If it's only one for a SHTF situation, it would be a Glock 9mm.

I dunno...that's a tougher question than choosing one single long gun. If it really came to that, I'd probably go with my S&W 1917.

This is easy, my Para 16-40 Limited w/ mag extension. 20 rounds of 40 S&W is tough to beat.
pick any one you want; I could live with any of them.
I bought the Ruger new, and it's been in and out of the holster over 1000 times as I tried instinctive point shooting. It took that many rounds to realize I didn't have the instinct. It's also been on my side for about 300 miles of walking in the desert during almost 20 years. Still nice and tight and very accurate. I kept it sighted in for 100 yards, figuring it would even up the reach a rifle armed adversary might have.

I would need a handgun that could do it all. One that has proven itself over the years not to fail. One that has taken deer as well as squirrel. One that could protect me and my family, that could drop trouble within a few feet... or 100 yards.
That only leaves one...

OK, I've taken a few breaths and settled down now. Like others, it would be my 5" 27. I can still have three rifles and four shotguns though, right?

In my opinion the best guns have character marks, emotional attachment and bring a smile to your face when you hold them. Pristine firearms just do not do that for me. I like memory lane when I pick up what amounts to a personal extension of myself. For the last few years, I have only owned one firearm: a C-series Browning Hi Power from the '70s. It is completely stock, and although I regularly lust after the beautiful Smiths I see on this forum, that old Browning will probably remain my one gun. It's about the size and weight of a three-inch K frame, has a perfectly adequate military-weight trigger (six pounds and crisp), and I can live with the fairly small sights and safety. I don't believe that there's any big difference in the real world between any of of the full-power calibers in FMJ, or between any of those same calibers when loaded with premium JHPs.
I've also come to the conclusion over the years that it's not so much what gun you select, but knowing the the gun you have. Nothing new there!

It would be a 357 mag revolver... Probably 4" barrel...Probably L or N frame.
