I’m heartbroken - 18DAI has left the building

No Words Are Adequate

Although we never met we had communicated vie the internet, made plans to meet during the now discontinued Greensboro Gun Show held at the Greensboro Coliseum. We never did.
He was always willing to share any knowledge he could with those of us "Old Timers" who were predominately Revolver Shooters with little or no Semi-Automatic experience, a trait I always admired from 18DAI. He will be sorely missed, Rest In Peace, JOHN!

Oh my God. I am shocked beyond belief. I learned a lot from John, too. I have a few more guns than I would have otherwise, thanks to his knowledge and excellent writing here on the Forum. For someone I never had the privilege of meeting, he sure had a huge impact on my appreciation of our favorite firearms - and life in general.
An awesome man who won't soon be forgotten.
Rest in Eternal Peace, John. We'll try to keep up the standard you set.

RIP, John… Your contributions here - and elsewhere won't be forgotten. You were always there to answer our questions and share your experience. My mailbox archive still has many PM's from you answering my many 3rd GEN questions. Godspeed.

I briefly checked the forum at lunch today, and was saddened to see "Absent Comrade" listed under one of John's posts. Like many others here, I benefitted greatly from his knowledge. I was contemplating buying a 4563 PC pistol a few years ago, but thought the price might be a bit high. I reached out to John, and he told me that it was priced a bit low, if anything. I purchased that pistol based on his advice, and it has become one of my favorite pistols. When I returned home this afternoon I took it out and fired a couple of magazines in his memory. I could almost hear him saying "Enjoy that fine .45!" RIP old friend.

Oh my gosh, this is so sad. I exchanged many conversations with John regarding 3rd gen pistols, mostly the .45s. He also referred me to Gordon Caughman regarding his holsters.

John always had time to chat and shoot the breeze, he will be deeply missed. Condolences to his family and friends.

RIP 18DAI

Years, nay, decades of being a wheel gun guy, then lurking on this Forum, finally joining and there were three Members that drove my attention to S&W semi's, 18DAI, Jeppo, and GMborkovic.

More than enablers....these guys were extremely passionate about these guns (and all things S&W).

There were three....now two. He will be sorely missed by all.

RIP 18DAI!!

RIP. Thanks for all your contribution and comments over the years.

I'm just reading this thread and am saddened and surprised to read of his death.

He was one of the most knowledgeable people when it came to 3rd Generation pistols on this forum. He, along with some others guided my journey through learning about buying, maintaining, shooting, and enjoying the ownership of those fine weapons.

The stainless CS9 I'm carrying this second came from John after I spent over a year looking for one. Every time I do anything with this firearm I'll think fondly of him.

He was taken from his family far too soon. May his memory be a blessing to them.
