Our thoughts and prayers are with John's family and heartbroken LEO family.
I was at a seminar yesterday on the subject of PTSD and the Military and LEO veterans. And the effects of the stress on our minds and bodies.
I would like to point out that our friend 18DAI was a noted contributor to the great Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson, 4th Edition by Supica & Nahas.
If your copy is nearby, it's listed on page 6.
If your copy is tucked away, no worries as I have it right here:
…and you should notice that he was listed twice.
Now I liked that the very moment I saw it years ago, and I hope you'll enjoy seeing it now.
A somber tip of the hat to our friend. What sad news.
He was always jolly on the spot to provide helpful information when needed & has provided us with some interesting stories.
Whenever I told my son about something interesting he'd posted I'd refer to him as our "3rd Gen Cheerleader", so he'd know who I was referring to since he wasn't familiar with 18DAI's forum handle .
One of the problems of hanging around here as long as I have, is watching some wonderful members pass on. John seemed a great guy, and is missed. RIP John. Prayers for his soul and for his family.
I only have two 3rd gens. I didn't post much in that sub forum but I would read it to learn more about them. John's passing has prompted me to spend time reading his post history.
A knowledgeable, experienced man with a kindness to his words.
Oh, man! What a gentleman he was. I've been into 3rd Gen guns for 25 years and I've had several dozen, and for as long as I can remember he was the guy I reached out to with a question. The simple "pencil eraser fix" for the click in the trigger on my newly aquired 4566. Dozens of questions about parts and disassembly. 60 is way too young. Was he I'll or was his passing unexpected?
Probably the best resource and friendliest guy I have come across on this forum or the many others I have been a part of. RIP John.
Indeed, very sad news. In the coming months and years, many of us will simply disappear, never to be heard from again. In this case, at least we know what happened.
I had no idea. Knew I had not seen his familiar "like" on any recent posts about his beloved 3rd gens especially .45s. Smithnut advised me a few days ago. John was always such a NICE man. Which says a lot these days. Years ago we became friends and exchanged lesson plans on S/W .45 transition schools. It always makes me very sad to see someone pass on right when they have gotten to the point to start enjoying life after years of hard work. Happens too often. Makes me mad that sometimes I waste a day or two doing nothing. Thanks John for making me smile and feel good reading your comments and post here.
We will miss you bro..
Prayers to Johns family and peace be with them.
The fallen comrade is an honor but not the title I like seeing.
He was a great contributor to this forum and the Smith community.
I personally don't post much here but have been active for a long time in the Smith world. I'm still honored by seeing my name in the Nahas and Supicas book as a contributor as well. It sure does seem that long ago how time flies. Lost my Dad last December and it makes you feel how precious life really is, sometimes we get too involved in the many things in life.
Thank Lee and the moderators for their time.
Rest In Peace John "18DAI"
