open carry in your area?

If I was a bad guy, I would check the room for armed citizens and hit them first. Can only assume a bad guy thinks the same way.

Maybe if your goal is to kill random people, but if your goal is easy money, you're probably going to avoid a gun fight if possible. Taking it to the extreme, armored car drivers OC.

All it takes is one. I don't want to be that statistic.

Using the argument, it rarely happens, might as well leave your gun at home if that is folks stance.

Many years ago there was a sort of hippie hangout in a bar called Alphies Place in Throggs Neck, the Bronx.

Lots of girls would hang out there and it was a local cop/fire hangout. You would never know by the looks of the place, unless you lived in the neighborhood which I did.

One night ( I was not there, but by morning the whole neighborhood heard) two wayward youths walked in, one toting a shotgun, the other a pistol, and announced a hold up.
Wrong place to be and they were obviously not from the neighborhood.

Out came the J frames within seconds. The shotgun wielding wannabe thief, DRT. The pistol toter was outside on the sidewalk begging for his life as he was quickly surrounded by a bunch of off duties.

45th PCT patrolmen took away the survivor, lucky for him.

I guess they forgot to check for armed citizens. ;)

Here in Louisiana it's hit-and-miss with open carry. Out in the country it's not all that uncommon, but in the large urban centers (especially New Orleans) it's going to attract a lot of bad attention.

If I'm out in the bayous or hiking in the woods, I'll open carry all day long. When I'm in the city, I prefer to conceal.

That said, I very much appreciate having the choice. The last thing I need is the government making things "safer" form me.

Mike

Almost never see open carry around Cheyenne. There is one guy who carries an AR15 into Starbucks, then sits down to drink his coffee.

During hunting season, there will be some who open carry a sidearm. Usually from out of state.

where i live, kentucky, open carry is legal, but i very seldom ever see anybody carrying, other than LEO. it might be different in other parts of this state. is it like this where you are (if open carry is legal there)?

i do believe that in this area, there is a perception that if you openly carry a gun, there's something wrong with you. and i do remember that the only three persons i can remember carrying guns were all nutty as hell. one of them got himself into a jam when he shot and killed a man in an argument over a poker game.

i must admit, if i ever buy that sexy kimber i've been looking at, i would love the world to see it. so i might be nutty as hell too.
Open carry is legal in Kentucky.BUT you need to know about local regulations. I don' t open carry much here in Eastern KY. now that we have permitted or no permitted CCcarry. I do have some that carrying CC is almost impossible. If I have been shooting and feel usafe to leave in car, I may open carry. I would not want to open carry in downtown Louisville.

North Carolina has always been legal for open carry but, unless you are in or around hunting lands such as Uwharrie state reserve you rarely ever see it. You used to see it occasionally in WM until they put up their signs requesting people not open carry in their stores.

I can remember going shooting with some friends in NC about 45 years ago. I was on a motorcycle and wearing a Colt .36 Navy in a holster on my hip. Pulled up at a stop light next to a State Trooper. He looked at the butt sticking out and nodded then drove off as the light changed.

Matt Dillion never hid his weapon.

I oc and cc both. And I have no concerns what others prefer to do. But If you think I'm odd for oc, I think you're odd for thinking that way.

It's legal (here in PA) and that's that.

And I don't buy into the "it's dangerous" schtick either. It's the bad guys that are the cowboys, not me.
I don't mind covering up with a sports jacket, but beyond that I want easy access. I want nothing in the way. No t-shirt, nothing I want a One Hand Pull.

Watch the vid "Never Rob a Texas Post Office". The good guy has a slight hickup when he goes for his gun getting a two finger grip when he first pulls it out from under his t shirt, he could have easily dropped his weapon during that pull. All because he had to get past the t shirt first.

I was raised to not wear t shirts as outer wear, and to tuck my shirt in so I don't look like a slob. My Mothers favorite saying when she saw us wearing a t-shirt was "We're not raising any James Deans in this house". It stuck all these years later, so sometimes it's open carry. No big deal.

When it comes to handguns, New Jersey is a de facto no carry state.

Open carry of long guns is much more convoluted. If you have a firearm purchaser identification card it would seem that open carry of a long gun is permitted so long as it is not loaded. However, I would never advise anyone to do this as they would almost certainly get arrested and could easily get charged and convicted of brandishing, disorderly conduct or maintaining a nuisance. Here is an extreme example: It might be legal to carry an unloaded post ban semiautomatic rifle with a magazine in the well and a closed breach slung over your shoulder to a rally or protest provided that the muzzle is always pointed to the ground—But pull a stunt like this in New Jersey you should expect to be in a world of legal and financial hurt even if you are acquitted at the end of the day.

Here in Southeast Missouri on the edge of the Ozarks, I very seldom see open carry. There's an older guy down at the sale barn on Fridays that carries a Uberti Cattleman openly, and there's a young man I see with a Glock 19 on his hip,,,other than that, I don't see anyone.

Now, during deer season you may see it over in the more rural counties, but that's only because they don't take their pistol off to pump gas or go in a café.

I don't open carry because I consider it tactically unsound.

I guess I am actually a sorta concealed carry guy. I usually carry a snub 325, in a pancake. In the summer usually wear a T shirt. It often prints and shirt can ride up some. I doubt all but the most aware ever notice.

Several times I have seen people open carrying and when I remarked on it to the wife she had not noticed. One guy had a shoulder holster with but forward and a knife handle right below the gun. It was easy to see the grip looking at him from about any frontal angle. That was at a garage sale in a double garage with tables on outside and a row down center. Neither my wife nor my MIL noticed. Most people just do not pay any attention.

Michigan, legal. Personally, I can't remember the last time I saw it, other than hunting situations.
In a vehicle, accessible only for concealed pistol permit holders, and it has to be a handgun.

Open carry is legal in Louisiana ( In most places ) but you have to pick your battles , For instance , my daughter in law owns a coffee shop that sort of caters to Moms and kids . There's a play area for the kids , WIFI and all sorts of coffees and sandwiches and salads . If I busted up in there with my G19 on my hip it would be all over the local Facebook groups within minutes and ultimately it would hurt her business if allowed to continue . That's just the world we live in . I hate it , but I have to live in it .

That reminds me, there is a garage sale in my 'hood Saturday. I love walking up to their tables and asking, "Do you have any guns?"

No luck so far.

Every once in a while we run into garage/Moving/Estate Sales here. Have loaded up my F150 to the gills when we do. Normally buy all the hunting/shooting/reloading stuff and then sort it out at home. Take what we do not need or want to the gun show on a friends table and sell it "priced to sell" (read not to expensive). Usually make back our money. Not to often, about once a year.
