This Crypto Currency advertising gimmick appeared for a single day yesterday in NYC's Central Park. It's a single 24kt solid gold casting weighing over 400 lbs and containing twelve million dollars worth of gold, cast in an ancient Swiss bell foundry.

Must be hollow as a cubic ft of gold weights around 1200# so a solid 400# cube would only be about 8 3/8" per side

Also, gold is currently $1830 per troy oz 400x12 =4,880 tr oz x $1830=$8,784,000. So it would take about 546.5# to make 12 million

The known amount of gold that has been mined is 187,000 metric tons and there are estimated 57,000 metric tons in unmined reserves. That is a total of 244,000 metric tons. A metric ton is 2204.62 lb so there are approx 538 million lbs of gold know to exist in the world. 1# is current worth 1830x12=$21,960. Lets call it 22K. $22,000x538,000,000#=$11,832,000,000,000,
That is 11 trillion 832 billion bucks.

As the US central bank only owns 8,134 metric tons (17,932,379#) of that gold, worth say 18 million lb x 22K per # =$396,000,000,000 or $ 396 billion

This is against a current debt of nearly 30 trillion, Which means about for every dollar of debt we have 1.32 cents in

Cypto currency is be backed only by faith

The US dollar is backed by faith and 1 1/3 pennies worth of real gold!

So much for going back to the gold standard.

Must be hollow ....
Yes, and being nothing but pure 24kt gold, it must be relatively soft. Wall thickness is about a quarter inch.
I looked for a video of the casting process, feeling sure that someone would have recorded the creation of that unique commission. The second video embedded in this article from the local newspaper in Switzerland shows a glimpse of the foundry process involved.

if it is 20" cube that would be 20"x20" or 400 sq in per side.

6 sides x 400=2,400 sq in total.
At 1/4 thickness that would be 2400/4=600 cu in
gold is right at .70# per cu in
.7x600#=420#

I used to have to calculate the weight for steel objects all the time

This seems like a good time to repost the Thai 24 K Gold -
The Bracelet too far.
They tell me it’s uncomfortable to wear.
The Gold spike things dig into your hand.
It was made cold extruded In a Bangkok Gold Shop by an ugly looking device looking something like a pipe bender.

Meanwhile back at The Trinity Site-
Your assignment is in the 10,000 Yard Bunker.
Would it be possible to be reassigned to the 20,000 Yard Bunker?

The Little Red Engine

Once there was a little red engine and every day at seven o''clock it came out of its shed at Taddlecombe Junction to go on his journey. Then one day, the Little Red Engine didn''t arrive. It had never been late before, whatever could have happened?'
This is probably a different Engine.
It mostly did Yard Switching in a Sawmill at Bernaillo, NM.

There are lots of Weird things in NM.
Just the other day I was out in the Boonies and I see this.
I was thinking Chicken House? Root cellar?
There are a few houses close by and I see a guy out in his yard.
So I say Howdy and ask him - what is that?
Turns out it’s an above ground Cistern - Water Storage.
It Supplied a house across the road I was driving on.
And It was Filled by a Irrigation Ditch - Acequia just behind it.
An acequia or séquia is a community-operated watercourse used in Spain and former Spanish colonies in the Americas for irrigation.

That's really neat!
Big question is did their professor require the students to analyze the span's response to various loads?
In my senior year in ME, we had to build a bridge with school-supplied coat hangar wire and submit an analysis of its load response. The test load was a bowling ball applied statically and dynamically and those whose bridge collapsed didn't do so well gradewise.

And given the scale and location, what sort of loads might be anticipated?

As if the new car market needed one more problem right now. The car carrier, Felicity Ace, is on fire and adrift unmanned in the middle of the Atlantic ocean. It was on it's way to Rhode Island with a cargo of new Porsche and Volkswagen vehicles.
As luck would have it, my VW dealer called last week and said my new car was now in production. Hmmm?

...As luck would have it, my VW dealer called last week and said my new car was now in production....
"Delivery will be a bit late, but we'll be giving you a discount due to some water damage..." :D

From the NYT article:

Matt Farah, a car enthusiast and editor of The Smoking Tire, had been waiting for his 2022 frozen-berry metallic Boxster Spyder, with a retail price of about $123,000 and modified to his precise specifications, since August. “The best sports car of all time, hands down,” he wrote.

He received disappointing news on Wednesday, he said: “I just got a call from my dealer. My car is now adrift, possibly on fire, in the middle of the ocean.”

In a statement on Thursday, Mr. Farah said that a Porsche representative confirmed that his car was on the boat and apologized for the inconvenience.

And from an update from The Drive:

Matt Farah, the man behind The Smoking Tire YouTube channel, posted today regarding his own Porsche that was apparently onboard the ship. "I ordered a Boxster Spyder in August, and I was very excited to get it at the end of this month, and now it seems like it might become an artificial reef," said Farah, adding that "I'm only saying this because I know no one was hurt, which is obviously more important." The car in question was a Boxster Spyder, which Farah planned to fit with an DeMan 4.5L flat-six engine after delivery, among other upgrades.

"...The ship is also carrying 189 Bentleys and an unspecified number of Audis..."

Fortunately, I'm not in the economic class that will be affected by this
