A view you don't see often. 36 years after the class's initial design, the modular assembly at the Bath Iron Works of the 70th Burke destroyer is complete, and she is shifted to a floating dry-dock to be ballasted down for launch.
She is a flight IIA version, giving her a range of improvements that make her one of our premier surface combatants.
Fair winds and following seas.

Another unusual view of something your probably familiar with.
Fresh from the paint shop, this Idaho ANG Republic A-10 Thunderbolt II is sporting the colors of it's tank-busting forefather, the Republic P-47 Thunderbolt, on the 75th anniversary of it's deployment by the unit in WWII.
In Normandy alone, the Thunderbolt was credited with destroying 123 German tanks. I think the classic colors look great on the A-10.

Another couple of military firsts just took place.

The first of the Flight III Burke destroyers was launched, sporting improvements throughout the battle-space, from integrated ballistic missile defense, expanded range surface threat detection and engagement, and networked anti-submarine capabilities with deployed ASW helicopters.

The Navy had one of their fighters take on fuel from a drone for the first time. The task is an important step in safeguarding refueling assets in contested airspace.

When we moved in about 32 years ago, we had a red fox in the neighborhood. He had a limp due to his hind leg was messed up. He was probably caught in a trap. After a couple of years we didn't see him anymore.

Then this little guy showed up about the middle of May. I think he is setting up a territory here. We have seen him regularly the last couple of weeks. I saw him last night prowling the backyard. He has about 150 acres to roam in along with a huge public park and wooded areas. Maybe he can do something about the tree rats. He or she is getting bigger.

... It is a bit of a mystery how they built these bridges, without having them collapse during the construction process. ...

A wooden arch is constructed and then the stones are placed against the wood arch. Once the keystone is in place across the width of the roadway and the spaces between the arches is filled with rubble and dirt or cut stone then the wooden arch is removed.

More from my gf yesterday. She sits in her garden with her Nikon and various lenses and "just shoots stuff".

Yet another of "Epic Whiskers" Charlie

And with a new macro lens. ("Like a portable microscope", she says)

There’s a online Camera Guy who I like named Ken Rockwell.
Little Kenny is sort of like a Photo Elmer.
Long Lens? Get closer!
Not sure if he ever shot any Antelopes!
I have said when it comes to long Lens, I’m too Cheap to buy one and too Lazy to tote it around.
But recently I caved a little and bought a Sigma 150-600.
On the Small Sensor DX Nikon, effectively a 900mm.
But not quite longer enough to get good shot of these guys!
They ran across the road in front of me and didn’t stop until they were deep into this pasture.
