I'm not going to say which manufacture because I'm surprised they replied so fast. I asked how far behind they were for filling primer orders, so as to have an indication on when things might start normalizing.

The response was a thank you but that information is proprietary.

Well, the manufacturer's response was certainly informative.

I wonder why they hid behind the proprietary statement?

If you called GM when production and business was normal and asked how long a wait would be for a specific car model, they'd tell you, why not a primer company? Strange. Don

I know. It smells

With the exception of a few often individual/enthusiast run businesses, I am never impressed by gun biz service mindedness. I called Midway day before yesterday in response to their most recent flyer. They had none of the half a dozen or so things currently advertised in stock that I wanted. Couldn't back order them either even though they were advertised for sale. I had to give them a piece of my mind. they must figure we are a captive clientele.

Perhaps the manufacturer was afraid you were a "sheep in wolf's clothing" and were possibly going to use the information for anti propaganda reasons.

One can never be too careful. We must remain very vigilant in our words and deeds.

Remember the words of the White House Chief of Staff "Never let a crisis go to waste"

I am a dealer who sells a lot of reloading components including a lot of primers (when I can get them) and I am not treated better. I really would like to know why primers are not being released and when to expect some. That way I would know what to tell my customers. I have yet to receive a straight answer. One that makes sense.

Some complain about the hoarding but it looks like that has all but stopped, simply because there is very little left to buy.

Same idea as with gasoline, in my opinion . . .

" heck, let's run the price up to over $4 a gallon for a few months and then they'll be glad to get it at less than $3 a gallon and we'll have doubled our price ! And if it's 'short' in some places, that just makes it even better ! "

Well just got a e mail flyer from Natchez and you can buy primed brass for 40 and 45 from Federal so they make more $$ that way.

A friend spoke to some other folks who are in the "now" he says and the general statment is that the production of primers has been increased but it is all going into manufactured ammo to keep up with the demand (hoarding) and there is more profit in the loaded ammo.
I would half believe that if I saw ANY loaded ammo at ANY store but the shelves are bare. There is nothing! and I live in a very populated area with lots of major stores .

Loose lips sink ships. Who knows what panic would arise if consumers were to actually know if or when a product would be available.

companies may not release them because they make a lot more money selling loaded ammo. that is the business they are actually in. not selling reloading supplies, that is a sideline of there main business.

Several years ago, I decided it would be best to use the oldest primers first and sent WW a letter with the lot numbers of the primers I had on hand.
They responded in short order with the years that each lot was made.

When is someone going to start importing primers..I'm thinking Russian or Chinese ..hopefully non corrosive ...I'd use em

Ernie
I believe Wolf primers are russian.
I find them a little tight to crimp and require a little more arm juice to load but plenty accurate and reliable as the other primers for target shooting.

As Johnnie Carsons side kick Ed used to say " I did not know that"
