Dark Times Ahead

Mustard version?
Have had just about every type of BBQ and still say Eastern N.C. is best for me. For Beef its a toss up between Texas and Chicago.

When we lived in Charlotte, NC, we learned about eastern North Carolina BBQ at a small place called "Bubba's BBQ". Yeah, what a unique name for a BBQ joint!! Ha! We had no idea [moving all the way out there from Arizona] that there were so many different styles of BBQ. Eastern NC BBQ is a vinegar based thin sauce with a little heat added in, and it sure hit a home run with my wife and me. Yum!
We later moved down to Rock Hill, SC, and a guy I worked with was a native S. Carolinian. He raved about a special BBQ place in Colombia, SC that was famous for their SC yellow mustard based version, and we didn't care for it at all, but that,s ok, too-kind of like some guys like a Ford- some like a Chevrolet.
That was one of the things that was great about living down south- so many BBQ places and "fish camps".

McDonalds is supposedly spending $100 million to bring customers back, after 104 people were struck with E. coli from their onions. The stock tanked and they've lost a lot of business.

I hope they can come up with a better plan than bringing back the McRib!

It wasn't "their" onions. It was from a vendor that sells them the product. Can't blame McD.

So do I. I don't care what's in it as long as it tastes good.

Well I grew up eating Potted Meat, and Potted Ham sandwiches, and Vienna Sausages and Ketchup sandwiches. When we got some Spam to eat we were in hog heaven. People always say to me "do you know where all that stuff comes from?" My answer is the same as above, I don't care as long as it tastes good.

Maybe I'll try a McRib

I had a friend who made a very successful career out of buying and selling pork futures. He told me when McDonalds is doing the McRib, they are the largest buyer of pork in the US.

Yes!! There is a restaurant/bistro on Maryland Route 97 north of Westminster that has has a wing sauce called "Golden BBQ." I happened to stop in one time and the name was so intriguing that I asked how it came about. These wings came about when a cook had a supply of coating for pulled chicken to use up, so the cook decided to use that coating on some chicken wings. The coating was distinctive in that it was mustard based and used less sugar than other chicken wing coatings. Being a diabetic myself, this was welcome news to learn about the chicken wings that were not only tasty but created less of a problem for my blood sugar. Since this restaurant was fairly close to home, I wrote an article about it for my American Legion post.

South Carolina has the best BBQ...everyone else suffers from terminal wishful thinking syndrome.

Thank you. I agree.......Most in my are are buffets....On that buffet you will find in addition to BBq-hash & rice. Vegtables/fried and smoked chicken/maccaroni/sweet taters/ hush puppies/ fried pork skins/ fried gizzards & livers and a long dessert bar..........What's not to like !

I also like their fries & their vanilla shakes!

I'll eat a McRib but McDonalds doesn't know the first thing about a vanilla or any other kind of shake. Shakes are made and mixed not ground out of some kind of machine. My wife swears their ice cream is mostly made out of chemicals...she can't eat ice cream...but no problem with a Mickey D Ice cream cone...BTW Banquet sells a type of microwave meat tray that looks like and tastes like the McRibs meat. Make yer own...Just thought of the name...Called Backyard Barbeque

Just sneaked a peek.
My local Walmart has the small Banquet Backyard BBQ with corn and mashed potatoes for $1.68.
That's for 10.45 oz! That's scary cheap!
And the only things I'm afraid of are Cancer and Women who weight more than me!

Yeah their shakes and cones are made with something more like a frozen custard than actual ice cream.
But I still like 'em!

They sell soft serve ice cream which typically has 1/3 the milk fat that ice cream has. I realize that sentence is confusing, but it is correct. They are two different types of ice cream, made differently. Dairy Queen is soft serve ice cream. Most buffets have soft serve ice cream. It's good, but it isn't ice cream. Although it is. See, confusing!:D

Yeah, soft-serve and frozen custard are very similar. The biggest difference being that frozen custard has more egg yolks.
McDonalds shakes are actually more similar to soft serve than frozen custard, but not exactly the same. For my money less milk fat isn't a bad thing. Leaving out the egg yolks (cholesterol) in frozen custard isn't necessarily a bad thing either.
They are still pretty tasty, IMO - regardless of exactly where they fall on the ice-cream/gelato/soft-serve/frozen-custard spectrum. ;)

Does anybody else remember the old "Beefsteak" sandwich that McD's had back in the early 80's? Actually, I quite liked it (which usually means something's gonna tank).

Oh yea...those buffets are to die for. I remember as a kid growing up there was a place in Scranton called Country Cousins...takeout only if I recall. My Aunt lives in Cades, and there's a buffet on the road to Kingstree where I go to strap on the feed bag. Get away from the tourists' areas and get BBQ where the locals eat, just can't be beat. Darn, this thread has me thinking of a road trip to see family and fill up a cooler with BBQ for the freezer at home.
