Do You Still Have The First S&W You Ever Bought?

Model 60 I bought from Law Enforcement Equipment Co., Kansas City, MO. in 1971. It drew the princely sum of $87, as I recall.

Yes, I still have it but it does not look anywhere as nice as most pictured here. I guess I'll be buried with that one.

My M29 with the Partridge front sight has been with me a long time, now well into the fifth decade.

Yepper, model 36-2 nickel chiefs special. Wish I had the box but never thought about collecting and the significance of boxes, oh well.

No, First was a sigma series 40 cal that I disliked but did trade it on a 1006 a few years ago. That's the only pistol I ever got rid of. Second S&W was performance center 627 and I'll keep that one forever..

A Mod. 34 bought at Knapps Dept. store Lansing Mi. about 1969. Cost may be $80.00 or so.
Now ain't this interesting. I'm the guy who started this thread posting my first S&W that I happen to still own, and Kitgun's post reminded me that i bought an identical Model 34 to the one he posted BEFORE my .44 special. Square butt, too, but no box. But the pawn shop had to get it back because they messed up and sold me a stolen gun. It cost $175. The store gave me $450 credit for the inconvenience so I bought a nickel Colt SAA .357 for that price that they had. Thanks, Kitgun, for reminding me of that.

Jan 71, bought a brand new model 49 Bodyguard, Nickle. I was returning for my 2nd and 3rd tours in VM as a MACV advisor and carried it always. I still have it, screws and sideplate are buggered from a P38, nickle is cloudy and has a few scratches. It is still a choice when I carry here in Illinois. I still have the original box and all the paperwork.

Yes, I bought this Model 41 new about 1958. I've fired it at least 10 K rounds and it's still in very good condition. A few years ago I began to get ejection problems so replaced most springs; problems vanished.

I don't have the second S&W I bought new, a Model 39 about 1970, I shot it a lot, with some pretty potent ammo, including handloads using 158 gr SWCs (yes, afer a little fiddling around, they fed OK). After about 1500 rounds I felt the gilt-edged accuracy departing so I sold it. I should have kept it and had it accurized; it was a wonderful pistol with a SA trigger pull almost as good as my Model 41, and DA pull better than my Model 37.

K-22

My first S&W was a model 18. Got it in 1970 for $98.00. Second was a model 19 in 1972. $110.00 ordered on department letterhead.

Many more since.

Best,
Gary

No Longer have First S&W

No, I don't still have my first S&W. I bought a S&W Highway Patrolman in 1967 from a guy who wanted to get an outboard motor for his boat. Paid $35 for it, the loaders and holster.

I sold it a few months ago as I'm in the process of selling my collection as age and health have caught up with me.

As I am new to the game, easy for me to say yes. M & P 22 auto pistol for plinking and my wife. She loves it.

As I have read this thread, and others like it, I see a common statement.

"Wish I still had ....." or "Shoulda never traded my....

So.... I'm going to try to hang on to whatever I get. It may be famous last words, but we will see

I still have my first Smith and Wesson revolver, and my second..

The first is a mdl. 19-5 that was owned by a member of my unit when I was leaving active duty. The mdl. 19 was pitted and had been cold blued in spots to make up for water damage. Adams11, who visits here from time to time, counseled me by phone to buy it. I purchased it for a whopping $80.00 and I would never wish divorce on anyone. When I came home from the service we bead blasted it and it was blued by a very competent gunsmith in my hometown who has since passed from cancer.

My second Smith is the mdl. 638 that I purchased just before starting the police academy. I carried this as an off-duty and back up for many years. Adams11 pointed me in the direction of this purchase as well.

Cheers,
Joe

Still have mine. Not my first S&W (that is a 10-7 my Uncle gave to me) but the first one I purchased. 629-5 Classic I bought used in 2005. Here it is dirty after a range session.

This is quite a thread!! My first was this Model 581. It was my first personally purchased duty revolver. Probably around 1984. Sold it years later during a divorce to a co-worker. Traded back into it years later. It was all rusty and beat up. Had it returned to it's original condition and now it is not going anywhere!

I still have my first. It is a 29-2 with 8 3/8" tube. I bought it in 1977 when I had a nine month wait and had to put the $375.00 up front. I thought I was fortunate when I received it after only six months.

My first S&W was a well used, but nice 10-8, 4" HvyBbl, round butt with Pachmayr combat grips. Got it from my friend Lee Barner, who had tuned up the action 'til it was buttery smooth. Great shooter. Sold it before heading to the Southern Hemisphere. :(
