Do You Still Have The First S&W You Ever Bought?

In a word, yes, and every one since.

I just noticed I broke 1000 posts. It only took me 5 1/2 years to do it.

My first pistol was a Spanish .25 auto because that was all I afford. At 18 I got a full time job and a S&W .44 Spec. second hand for $40. I remember it had fixed sights, a shrouded ejector, magna grips and can't remember a 4 or 5 in. barrel. At the time I didn't reload and a .44 Spec. is not very powerful so it has been gone many years. I wish I still had it for sentimental reasons but for shooting and carrying I had rather have a M29. My first S&W was a model 686 .357 magnum with a 6" barrel, Hogue style rubber grips & adjustable sights bought new back in 1994. I sold it a year or so later & regretted it ever since as it was my favorite shooter at the range and even more so now, have you seen the price on these things now?

The first S&W I purchased is a 38 Special (non +P), square-grip, model 60, no dash...

I purchased this one in 1986 for my wife and since then she has graduated to a GLOCK 19 & 26. I now get to play with it more often.

It made a trip back to the mothership a couple of years ago with a broken hammer pin. They drilled a hole through the left side of the frame and pressed in a new pin which is visible below the cylinder release.

I still carry this one around the house and while doing yard work. I find the square grip & T-grip combo makes for the best feeling J frame grip I own.

Yup, 1984, 640 38 spl, got all the docs but no box. Carry it every day for now. 15 rounds from 1984 to 2013. 350+ in 2014. Still pretty close to new condition.

Stay safe, John

Yup - still have my M41 which was my first. However I do regret selling my second gun which was my very first carry gun - a 2" RB M10 Blued. At the time I needed the money from the sale of the M10 to purchase a M60.

I told the story a few times, but my first S&W is a model 18-2. Still have it. At the time I didn't have a lot of money and decided to go to a gun show with a good friend. This 'old timer' was walking around with a blue box...asked to take a look.

It was an unfired Model 18 without a turn line and extra holsters, speed loaders, all sorts of stuff with it. He wanted the princely sum of $500 for it and I about fell over thinking of how much money that was to me at the time. My buddy goes, hey, that is a really good price and it is an excellent choice to start with so you can practice. At this point, I am about as white as a ghost, sweating, thinking about this deal, feeling sick, not sure what to do because it is 'so much money for a .22'.

I thought I was plumb crazy and paid the guy. As soon as I did, I had buyers remorse, saying to my friend something to the effect of, "I can't believe I paid that much for a .22; now I'm gonna be living on hot dogs and mac n cheese for a few weeks.

Well...we put it back in the box and secured it in the trunk of his vehicle, locked it and went back in, because he was still looking for something to spend his hard earned dollars on. I started talking to some of the guys who had the tables at the show and all of them said: Wow, you stole that thing with all those extras! From that point on, I realized my best friend was right, I made a good decision, and I was proud as a peacock. It was a great learning opportunity and allowed for practice at the range (back in the days when .22 ammo was cheap and plentiful). It is more or less 'retired' now and from time to time I clean and oil once a year and still laugh that at the time, it cost me about as much as I had paid for my cheap college car.

Unfortunately, no.
It was a model 39 police trade in I picked up in Az. in the early 1980's.
I think I traded it for a Walther PPK.

(Bent over, awaiting boot.)

Yes, about 40 yrs old now, M19-4:

I have the first S&W I ever traded for, which is my 686 ND.

I also have the first S&W I ever paid hard-earned cash for, which is my 629-6.

To be honest, I have never sold any of my Smith & Wessons. When I joined this forum, I had only the above two, for many years. Since joining this forum, I have bought 3 more.... :D

First S&W

My first S&W was the M-53 pictured here. I bought it in the Fall of 1965, my Senior year in college. I had been reading about the .22 Jet and it seemed like a good idea. I went to Jone's Sporting Goods in Greeley, CO. The sales man asked if he could help and I asked how long it would take to get a M-53. He said: "about two seconds", and he reached under the counter a laid this baby in front of me. I went out to the car and brought in my nickeled Colt Scout K with two cylinders and a trade was made. The cost of the M-53 was $125.++ and I financed the balance at $5.00 a month forever. I have never regretted the buy and I still have it and shoot it. It basically vaporizes Prairie Poodles.

First S&W I ever bought was a used 39-2 in 1980, and I still have it. First new S&W I bought is a 1006 I bought in 1993. Still have that too.

1st S&W
This K-22 is my first, had it since I was 14, 1964. This is one they will have to pry from
my cold dead hands. I got some buddies who have promises to do just that!

No. My first S&W was a 4" .22/.32 Kit gun (I forget the model). It was 1959/1960. I carried it in the car in France until I came back to the states in early 1961.

I used it until I was in Nevada in late 1963 and traded it to a military buddy for his Ruger Single-Six.. the Ruger fit my hand much better than the round butt S&W.............

I do still have my first Auto-Loading S&W. A 39-2 I gave myself for Christmas in 1975..............

My 1st SW was a model 10. I no longer have it, my trial and error experimental 1st wife nor my 1st car. However;

I do have my 1st Model 19 purchased some years ago and my last SW purchase, a 629 in 4".
