Halfway between Ely Nevada and Delta Utah about 10 miles north of US50
Thought about Santa Fe for a long time, man its changed too artsy fartsy!, and over developed. Probably northern NM near Colorado border on top off a mountain with no Internet service, sorry boys and girls. Got a feeling tho it will be middle or northern Wisconsin. But Im out of there in the winter!!

Yes sir, Salmon Idaho is the place.....at least for a couple of years and then we will see how we feel about the area.
We will be creating a living space inside of a building on a good friends cattle ranch just south of town near the Lemhi River. Will start work on that project at the end of March.......then quit my job in mid May and begin the mad rush to make the place livable by the end of July.
We are NOT retiring, just taking a semi-hiatus and will get a part time job to pay the bills and take long weekends to enjoy the country and explore, hunt, fish, hike, etc.
A big project, but doable!
I was introduced to Salmon by my 85 year old hunting partner Dwight.....his father was a physician in Salmon back in the late 1940's.
So in that top photo from left to right is Elmer's wife Loraine, my friend Dwight as a young boy, Dwight's mother, Teddy Keith and of course Elmer......photo taken on Elmer's front porch in the late 40's.
In the second photo, Loraine, Elmer, Dr. Martindale and Dwight's father William Williamson......photo taken just before Elmer took the two fellas out on a hunt in the Salmon area. Dwight's father was an avid hunter/outdoorsman.

If I could take my gun safes and all their contents with me, southern Bavaria, or the area around Salzburg, Austria, in the Alps, would be my first choice. (Photos below are from that region.) But that can't happen, so...
We're talking about staying in the USA. Okay then...I want mild summers (no hotter than 80 degrees)...cold winters...plenty of snow...mountains...low crime...neighborly folks...and not too terribly far from civilization. So...almost anywhere in New Hampshire or Vermont...

Mrs. QD67 and I have lived here all out lives, minus her time in the Army and my time in college. Wayne County is the most northeastern County in PA.
It's nice, kind of quiet, one could say boring. But it's changing.
Since the pandemic, real estate is red hot as the NYC types are looking to get out and live in the country while working from home. When Honesdale was featured in Philly Magazine, I knew that was trouble.
We've been in our house 17 year this May. We could sell it for close to double what we paid. But where do we go?
When we were young, we always wanted to live in Vermont after visiting numerous time after getting engaged and married. but that was 30 years ago, and we dislike winter more each year. So moving farther north is out.
I went to college at Pitt for a while, and after realizing that wasn't for me, I lived and worked there for a few years. I liked it. But I like the surrounding suburbs and country better.
I'd be OK moving out near the 'Burgh. It's still PA. I'm a Pittsburgh sports fan. I drink IC Light. It's no colder or snowier than here, actually a little less so.
And it's pretty far from NYC.

We had our home built here in Prescott Valley in 2016 and the cost was $390,000
We just listed it for $725 and expect to sell for $750 or better
But yes, if I were moving someplace and planning to buy right away it would be tough......but with our situation being what it is we will park the funds from the house and sit tight for a couple of years to see how this all plays out.
We are fortunate to have the opportunity that we have!!

I'm among the sizable group of members who will stay where they are. I'm a man of permanence; other than graduate school, which was a temporary move, I've moved only once in my life, and that was once too often. Like Rusty1953, my friends and family are an extremely high priority. The church I'm serving is also at the top of the list. I'm also a big fan of rural areas & small towns, and that is where I am, and will remain.

I've been everywhere man..... When Good Wife passes on, and if I'm still able to get myself about, here are some places I'll be looking at.
For me it is really tough to decide. Without looking at a map the locations I'd like to visit and spend some time in, Fredericksburg TX, Cottonwood AZ, Wrangle AK, Boise ID, Blackfoot ID, Boseman MT, Black Hills of SD, San Angelo TX area, (I got so lost there one night driving my big truck if a cop had seen me on those roads I'd still be paying on the ticket) Grand Junction CO, Green River UT, and some others.

For me it is not so much about where, it's a matter of when to be there. Just about anywhere in North America before about 1970 would be nice. Colorado was a great place to live, back in the 60s and 70s, but not so much anymore.
Probably the best way I can express my wishes is to say that I really want to move back to America, but I can't figure out where that is these days. Any hints will be welcome, and save some boxes for me because I want to take all my stuff when I go back.
