Problem with the forum < See Post # 64

I've been a user of this forum for some time and about a month ago started having an odd problem with it. If I visit this forum and leave the tab open for a while at some point another junk tab opens. I'm using Safari on an iPad normally. It doesn't happen on any other web site. It's not a big problem, just annoying but I'd hate to think I'm getting directed to junk sites by this site somehow. This is a sample of one of the tabs that was opened for me. Any ideas what's going on? Thanks.

I'm also experiencing this. It only started recently. Never had this in the past. I'm on an iPad.

I'm a contributing member and use a popup blocker but I still get these popups and it's only when I log on to this forum. Also, when I'm on the forum and look at my forum history, instead of this site showing up, it says "brought to you by adsupply". I did a little research on adsupply and it appears to be a company that provides ads for websites to display for compensation. I have no idea if this forum uses adsupply. If not, it's pretty coincidental that the ads only show up here. The ads show up on my iMac and on my iPhone.

Me too, and I'm using Safari also on my iPad. The ad shown above just appeared twice, momentarily, and gone in a flash when I'm browsing the forum.

Kudos to Thiokol for solid diagnostic information!!

I wish my users at work could be that specific, I really do.
And the many reports that cite platform are also helpful.

Ads? What ads? Even before I was a contributing member, I never saw ads. But I run Firefox and have it tightly locked down with extensions to deal with pop-ups, ads etc.

I just tried on Safari without logging in MAJOR "advalanche!!"

I use a desktop machine and a tablet (rarely) and haven't seen ads in some time, maybe years. My low level of computer proficency prevents me from explaining why that is.

Windows 11 with Firefox and a script blocker.
No issues with ads. Never seen the stuff you guys are talking about.
BUT I am a bronze supporter too.
The big gorilla has to pay the bills somehow, so seeing the ads are the way that non-supporters "pay" for use of the forum.
Nothing worth having is completely free, so we all pay one way another. IMO, the nominal cost of supporting the forum far outweighs what I get out of being allowed to hang out with such a fine bunch of folks.

That isn't what I'm getting. I'm not getting a popup, I'm getting a new tab opened to a different web site every time it happens.

If your browser is set to open pop-ups in a new tab, then it is exactly the same.

It's not. This problem is opening complete new web pages in addition to still having the S&W site open. The problem is not the one you're referring to. And, as you can tell from numerous posts, I'm not the only one this is happening to. In addition, it's only happening on this site, no others.

Ditto. And for me, laptop using Edge as a browser. Only happens here.

I never log out of most sites because of all the stupid passwords, but when I X out of this site and I've noticed a couple others there's an ad for something, some times political. I just X it out and it goes away. It's better than those ads for Ukranian women who are looking to marry me!

Mine has just quit the auto opening of another advertising tab.
