Shouldn't We Gun Owners Say Something about the Aurora Shooting?

I think the less we talk about gun rights right now, the better. We have the rights, don't blow it by being insensitive and acting like the only thing that matters is gun rights.

10 people are DEAD. 5 still in critical condition, the family of one of those was told yesterday that the medical bills might be 2 million $ (a son was born to this man since this attack and he has been laying flat on his back semi-aware that life continues), 50 some injured and shame on me for not knowing the exact number.

Focus on the gunman, not the gun. DEMAND that our laws punish these people. And yes, I mean exactly that - PUNISH.

10 people are dead. DEAD. Would it bring it closer to home if you thought of one of the DEAD being your mother, father, sister, brother, your best friend . . . no more family Christmas dinners . . . no more times with your best friend . . . no more going to the lake, fishing . . . no more jeepin' trips . . . no more worrying about your monthly bills, your next car, your next holster . . no more planning your next vacation - no more future - no more nothing. Dead is dead. Bring it home, countless lives have been changed because of a gunman. If it wasn't a gun, it would be something else.

Focus on the gunman, not the gun.

The tone that I'm gleaning from this tragedy is that the liberal media/politicians are being ignored in their cries for more gun control. Everyone else has accepted that the second amendment will stand as the SCOTUS has interpreted it, as an individual right. All intelligent politicians recognize that this is a no win topic. That's why Obama used Holder to run "Fast and Furious 'behind the scenes'" to gain sympathy for more gun control-he knew he couldn't get it through congress, just as he can't ram through illegal alien amnesty.

Another politician is being very widely ignored. As I awoke to the news on a Phoenix station this morning (KTAR), I heard this:

"New York's mayor Bloomberg believes that cops ought to go on strike until an 'assault weapons' ban is passed. How can anyone so irresponsible be elected?"

Took the words right out of my mouth.

John

As triple lock previously stated I also was wondering why a wacko who was all dressed up for the shoot out just calmly gave up? He couldn't have dressed for the theater as the coward knew more than likely there would be no one to thwart his very well planned mayhem.
The media jumped on the 6000 rounds of ammo ordered as though he was or could have it all on him!
What can you say about Bloomberg? I'm embarrassed that I live in the same state as him. I hope the police do strike in NYC, talk about irresponsible inflammatory statements! I'd like nothing better than to see a picture of him in the New York Post negotiating with thugs and theives with tears in his eyes.
I'm not ready to call this another Fast & Furious but if all of a sudden we hear this red headed animal is found dead in his cell I'd have second thoughts.

I hear you. Bloomberg will be Mayor for Life as long as his money holds out and the NYC moonbats keep pulling that lever for more Nannyism and less soda pop. Nobody outside of NYC is paying much attention to him.

Isn't batman supposed to be a crime fighter by fighting to protect law abiding citizens?

"Black guns" will be the first choice of many people in the country to be banned. A lot of people see these guns as military wepons with the only possible use - killing other people. If these guns can't be banned, the next obvious target will be restricted availability of ammo.
Here in Hawaii, a private citizen can not purchase any ammo directly from the mainland. It must be purchased from a local dealer. And, the choices are very limited!!!
Here on Maui, we have one range that is available three times a month for "open" shooting. That's it.
With all of the hurtles, we muddle trorough.

It's amazing to me how restrictive some states can be and still get away with it. My wife and I vacationed in Hawaii last summer. We were on the streets of Honolulu at night when we were approached by a guy handing out flyers for a commercial shooting range where we could shoot all kinds of range-owned and controlled guns, most of them illustrated on the flyer. I handed it back to him and told him that I was from Arizona, and I own all of the guns on the flyer, something not easily possible for individuals living in your beautiful state.

The only thing that gun owners need say about the Aurora shooting is to post a picture of that theater's "No Guns Allowed" sign.

One picture is worth a thousand words.

Yes rolomac, alertness is good. But I contend that the "underlying evil" is the state. When Mr. Holmes went into action, he was not employing the M.O. of a civilian who owns firearms for his own protection or recreation; he was imitating the government's armed thugs, whose handiwork we can view on YouTube for hours on end.
The state is the biggest killer ever known to man. If there's an evil "gun culture" today, it should be blamed on the only organization that claims a monopoly on the use of force, and that teaches our kids that the way to get another human to do what's right is to put your boot on his throat.
There will always be garden-variety murders, and yes, every now and then some guy will go nuts and mow down a dozen or more. But to slaughter innocent men, women and children by the thousands or even millions, that takes the state. Don't trust it.
I think your right on target. life is a risk and we will never eliminate risk no matter what laws are passed...truth is, we only die once. I will risk running into some nut case that is beyond my control, but I do not want to lose my ability to keep the government honest by not having the means to resist. If we learned anything from WW2 it should be that defenceless people can be eliminated with very little risk to the government. I would rather lose my life fighting for my freedom than be subjected to seeing my family marched into a concentration camp for the final "solution" I love my freedom and many good men died to preserve our freedom, I will never let them down by allowing my freedom to be taken away. If history teaches us anything....the worst can happen...if we allow it to. We owe it to the future generations of Americans to take whatever steps it takes to preserve our freedom and our constitution from enemies...both forgein and domestic.

I lived in Hawaii for 3 years as military; yes you can (and I did) have my guns with me, got a hunting license, and I actually went to that range and fired my handguns there (there aren't that many indoor ranges on Oahu). The guy was handing out the flyers because Hawaii is a HUGE vacation spot for (primarily) rich Japanese and other Asians, who cannot legally own a gun.
However, it does illustrate the difference between two diametrically opposed ideologically state governments: Hawaii doesn't really make it easy to find out about gun ownership and hunting and such, whereas in Arizona, all you have to do is walk down the street to find a gun store or range or what-have-you.
So, it is imperative to search out and exercise gun ownership rights and all that goes with that, wherever you may find yourself living.

I loaded my own when I was stationed there. :D

Inevitably in the aftermath of these shootings the lunatic left always wants to legislate more gun control because they know they can't legislate human behavior.
In NYC yesterday a father threw a cup of acid on his daughter's face. There won't be any proposals from the rulers of the People's Republic of New York because the only thing they could possibly try to change is human actions and they can't. And that makes them (more) crazy!

I wish I could share your optimism that politicians won't keep trying to "legislate human behavior." Doesn't that describe almost everything they do nowadays? America has become such a pathetic mass of state-worshippers that even "conservatives" now believe the fantasy that government can prevent people from doing harm by controlling their actions.
Legitimate laws exist to punish evildoers. Preemptive laws and regulations, on the other hand, seek to keep people from doing bad things in the first place. The latter will always fail, because people who intend to do harm will simply ignore the rules. Meantime, those of us who do not intend to do harm are penalized when government prohibits us from doing things we want to do, forces us to do things we don't want to do, turns us all into nominal criminals, and drives up the prices of things that ought to be cheap.
What is really disappointing is how many gun enthusiasts don't understand that this principle applies to everything, not just guns. They raise hell about gun control, but cheer other goofball schemes that the DC demagogues cook up in the name of protecting us.
The task of an authoritarian state is not just to rule, but to make people want to be ruled. In America, it's looking more and more like "mission accomplished."
