Today in Texas - open carry on the horizon

Hey if they want to afford me the ability to carry in the open I am okay with that. I like that I am one of only 829000 CHL holders and instructors in the state of Texas that can legally do so. The others need to hurry up and get licensed or wait a couple more years before we get around to giving everyone the right to carry. For now I am good with what I can get. Now I don't have to worry if my gun peaks out on occasion while I conceal carry. Baby steps......

Someday I might end up in trouble with the law, but I REFUSE to ask permission from some government agent to exercise my God given right to self defense. You write of "affording me the ability to carry" and "years before we get around to GIVING everyone THE RIGHT to carry".

No one is giving me any rights except the Almighty.

Because in my experience, most liberals are vehemently anti 2A.

I also resent your reference to me as "your type'. I'd say more, but I'd be banned.

Congratulations, you are the initial member of my S&W Forum ignore list.

As a CC Texan and a member of the far "LEFT", I have to INSIST that you and your type quit trying to make it an "either/or" situation.

Why does your type keep trying to alienate ALL liberals, instead of searching for common ground with regards to 2nd Amendment rights? Believe it or not there are those of us on the "Left" that cherish our 2nd Amendment rights as much as those on the "Right", so please drop the Party politics thing.

Interesting viewpoint from an apparent law abiding citizen. Are we to take it that you're illegally concealed carrying?

UPDATE: Called DPS now that it has been 84-days since I submitted my CHL application. DPS now says they got the application but NOT the training course or DD214... Go figure! I know that I submitted them before.. but such is govt...

This is precisely why concealed carry should not require a permit. Right now, in my area, we have a probably armed killer roaming the woods. Not the NY guys but a local miscreant who offed his girlfriend a few weeks ago and been eluding police ever since. From what's thought to be known of his movements, he stole a truck and drove past my house. He's had to go past me in the woods within a half mile or so in one direction or the other. We've had helicopters, Humvees loaded with heavily armed guys looking like they're going to take Baghdad back, state troopers, sheriffs, all running up and down the roads with their lights and sirens going. Ran into a law enforcement friend of mine today at a local festival, wearing his bulletproof vest.

So the threat is real, here and now ... but a CC permit is 6 weeks to 90 days away.

We have open carry here. Go ahead and try open carrying and see how quick you're harassed by Man With A Gun calls.

Threats just don't happen on a convenient schedule.

Good luck getting your permit. Travesty that you even need one, I think.

I was around before folks liked Ike, before that day in Dallas that forever changed our
country and before the 68 GCA....Lots of folks carried pocket guns.

The concept of a licenses to carry a firearm concealed, is aliken to the tax to make your own whiskey
or the tax on the tobacco to roll your own smoke.

A state wants everything to be a taxable privilege, not an inalienable right.

So those that carry without the blessing of the state, may be penalized for their transgressions or
indiscretions whichevery that would be the most applicable at the time.

In my jurisdiction, a concealed deadly weapon(s) charge would be plead down to a tail light out on a bicycle, or just dismiss outright.
(The last one that I had personally knowledge of, was dis-missed on the condition the offender obtain a concealed carry license.)

Folks have carried for years....Just more folks carry now, what with the A-Ok from the state(s) with those revenue making licenses.

It's not about public safety, it's not about training, it's not about the the law....

It's all about the money. When the money flows...Anything goes!!!
