What did I just layaway?

Ok, earlier today, I laid away what I believed was a pre Model 10. Actually, I thought it was early postwar i.e. pre-short action. Now, not so sure. It's 2" Square Butt Military and Polise, 5 screws, no Model 10 stampings. Where the 4 line address is, there was only "Made in U.S.A." The caliber marking was on the left side of the barrel, and the serial number had no prefix that I can remember, i'm almost sure it was just 6 numbers. Did I buy a prewar M&P and not realize it, or is it postwar? Thanks for any help.

Sounds like a pre Victory Model 1905 4th change or earlier Victory Model had the Prefix V then SV till 1945 then the post war Prefix S in 46 till 1948.Then the Prefix C started also in 48 till the D came in the late 60's..
